  • Coach of top Illinois HS team takes his team off the court and forfeits

Chicago Public League member, Chicago Curie, is one of the top teams in Class 4A in Illinois. Depending on which rankings, they rank either #2 or #3 behind Chicago Simeon, and, in some cases, Kenwood.
Curie played a game last night at Michigan City (Indiana), and the Curie coach didn't like a call by the referees in the first half, so during a time out he informed the referees, the Michigan City AD and the coach of the Michigan City team that his team would leave if the officiating didn't improve. Then after the time out, the referees called a technical foul on him.
He then instructed his team to pick up all their belongings, and lead them off the court to the locker room. The officials declared a forfeit, and that the game was over. But it didn't end there. The Curie coach had a change of mind, and he and his team then returned to their bench and asked that the game resume. But by then the officials declared the game over and had left, and the home team was in their locker room with a win by forfeit.

This is the only report anywhere on the internet I can find about this game and its bizarre ending.

      Per the Michigan City coach:
"That's the first time anyone has ever Bobby Knight'd me,??? Boyd said.
???I'm a seasoned coach, so I've seen a lot of different things. I just go
by the rules. You walk your team off and the referees call the game,
that's the end of the game. We get a win.???

the parents of the Morgan Park HS team also deserve some of the same razz...
they forced a cancellation of a game due to a threatened boycott
Morgan Park High School parents met Saturday with the school's principal for the second time to voice their frustration about inadequate gymnasium at the school.

Mike Oliver, the coach of Chicago Curie HS who took his team off the court to protest the officiating in a game in Michigan City, Indiana last week (see the top post in this thread), was given a 2-game suspension, placed on a 1 year probation, and required to complete a sportsmanship course by the IHSA, as a result of his actions in the game.
