Sporting News just gave Xavier's head coach Chris Mack this honor...but there's no shortage of coaches and teams that are really surprising so far...
Xavier was picked 4th in the Big East but they are 14-1 and solidly in the Top 10 with the #1 RPI
Maybe the MVC version of the Mid-Season COY ought to go to Barry Hinson...
Anyway- other coaches I think deserve to be in this same discussion for National Coach of the Year...
...ex-FGCU coach and current USC head coach Andy Enfield....
He's not getting press and USC simply doesn't get on TV anywhere near as much as the Big East...
But Enfield has taken a USC team that was picked TENTH in the preseason !!!! (12-team league)
and they are 15-3, 4-1 in the Pac-12, and they are red hot - coming off consecutive wins over Arizona, UCLA, and Arizona State!
...Washington also is surprising people - they are 11-4 and 4-0 in the Pac-12
...they were picked below USC at 11th in the preseason!
...Tom Crean has silenced those calling for his head - 14-3 and 4-0- all alone in 1st place in the Big Ten
...likewise Clemson's Brad Brownell (4-1 in ACC) and South Carolina's Frank Martin (15-1)....both are off to surprisingly good starts
nice article on the coaches who are doing well
