  • This Week's New Rankings

The weekly rankings have started to come out.

    CBSSportsline's Gary Parrish's Top 25 -
UNC on top, Butler at #8, no MVC teams in the Top 25

CHN's rankings are always out on Sunday, but they are not posted yet.

    CNN/USA Today Poll/Top 25 is out.

UNC is #1, UNI getting close (27th) and only two Valley teams even getting votes now (UNI and Missouri State).

I agree, what do they have to do to get ranked?
They have beaten several tougher teams than Washington State
(who have beaten only ONE team in the Top 80 in RPI) and Clemson (whose only top-50 wins are against Appalachian State and Fla. St.!)

By the way, here is the Top 50 from CHN, and THEY DO HAVE UNI in the Top 25.
They also have Misouri State #28, SIU #35, and WSU #49.

How is Appalachian State in the top 50? Are they actually good this year?

I still can't believe how Wichita State has crumbled so quickly.

Appalachian State is amazingly ranked #10 in RPI.
I think if there is a flaw in the RPI these guys found it.
But since they are in a conference that is terrible, they will drop like lead once they start playing all their 300+ RPI opponents.

We're just going to beat each other up in conference and one team max out of the MVC will end up ranked. IMO.

No matter how many teams the MVC sends to the NCAA Trny, the highest seed they get will be a 7. Right now, I think 4 bids would be about right with a 7, 8, 9 and 10 seeds.

The MVC is gonna ge hosed b-a-d-l-y... just like EVERY year.

The fact of the matter is WSU has only themselves to blame for their collapse. They still have time to turn things around. Second, the team that finishes first will almost certainly be ranked by the end of the regular season, something that was not gurarenteed even as recently as last year. Third and most importantly, rankings don't necessarily dictate how many teams make the tournament from a conference.

If the Valley gets five unranked teams into the tournament and two of them make the Sweet 16 and one to the Elite 8 or beyond, well those are the only rankings that ultimately matter!

Well, UNI hardly had any votes last week as I can recall. The fact that they jumped all the way up into the top 30 from almost nothing in one week is pretty darn good! One more good week and they will be guarenteed a top 25 ranking next week. Of course, other BCS teams beating each other up would help as well!

Bravesfan - the polls are SO FLAWED... it is an ABSOLUTE JOKE! But the 'mouthpieces' would rather point the finger at the RPI as being flawed (when the RPI was created to basically justify BCS schools getting at-large bids based on winning 20+ games with almost all non-con games being at home against creampuffs).

                          1) WSU has only themselves to blame. Right. But the 'mouthpieces' never checked to see who was predicted to win the MVC.

                          2) The winner of the MVC finally getting ranked between 20-25 at the end of the season does not fairly show how good all the top teams in the MVC are throughout the whole season.

                          3) Sadly - you are wrong again... the rankings ARE taken into consideration for not just bids but how high of a bid.

                          --

and then you go into how UNI jumps up in polls and fans of the MVC should feel good about that.... And they could move up when other BCS teams beat up on each other... but what about the MVC being amongst those considered for beating up on one another? Oh... it is only good when BCS teams beat up on one another... but when MVC teams beat up on one another, then the MVC teams must not be that good.

You sound like you have your BCS blinkers on.

Bradley has dropped out of the Mid-Major Top 25, but the MVC teams still rule. Drake drops out.
