I know what you mean. The only time I've seen him smile is when they won it all. The guy wants to win. Any coach who goes and coaches a school where Maryland was and being able to pick your job is all right with me! I'd want him on my team anyday.

He was just trying to get his team in, that's all. I understand your point......but I still like the guy as a coach

I have nothing against Williams, personally.

But is that how you would promote yourself and your business? By tearing down someone else, or by unfairly ripping into your competetion?

I agree but you have to know where he comes from. He is old school, is a fighter and grew up in a very blue collar family from NJ. He'll do what he thinks it takes within the rules to win. I'd be suprised if he ever would B(*&CH about the time his team played as an excuse.

One thing notable is the paltry attendance. Only 4,761 in attendance. The Maryland arena appeared almost empty on TV!

Maryland's home arena is the Comcast Center. It holds 17,950 fans. The actual attendance of 4,761 was pretty embarrassing.

I noticed that too. Manhattan could have drawn that many at Draddy Gym. If that's the best a BCS school can do for the NIT, maybe they should pass them over for a smaller school that cares about the sport and the tournament they're playing in. I know it's tough for teams and fans to get jacked up about playing in the NIT, especially when you're expecting bigger things. Maybe Gary Williams didn't want his team in the NIT for that reason. I thought of the Spring Break possibility to explain the empty seats, but it very well could have been apathy at its finest. There seemed to be plenty of good seats at Maples Pavilion when Stanford hosted Virginia earlier this week.

I got this link off another MVC fan board. And Biff is right, the threads concerning Gary Williams and Maryland's loss yesterday are on every Valley message board, and they are a lot more vitriolic than anything here.

It seems Williams and every one of the players are still blaming everyone but themselves for their not making the NCAA and even their embarrassing loss in the NIT.

It is true that Maryland was coaxed into the NIT wit a guarantee of playing 3 home games, and getting the #1 overall seed, and getting to play their first game Saturday (after all other matches had been played earlier), and on national TV. I thought the NCAA was going to be more impartial in it's running of the NIT?

agree he is a capable coach, but as a personality, he is miserable.
He barks at the refs more than any coach I have seen, and his week long rip on the Valley and pretty much
BRADLEY by name was a bit more than I can stand without firing back.

He said as plain as day that he thought he should have been in the NCAA and the last couple MVC teams should NOT HAVE>

So who do you think he was referring to?
Of course he was ripping on BU. So he whines enough that his buddies in the NCAA give him top seed in the NIT and a guarantee of 3 home games and a national TV appearance.
They even talked about the behind the scenes cushy deal with Gary during the broadcast, didn't you hear it?
It was almost as if the ACC is in everyone's pocket at the NCAA/NIT!!
Then he goes out and underperforms and loses (not to a low major) but a pretty low minor program.
I agree with several of the other posters, Gary Williams begged for a response to his wise cracks about the Valley, and he is getting the very response he wanted.

I'll bet if BU hosted an NIT game there'd be more than 3-4000 people there!!

And I'll bet Gary Williams and Maryland will run and hide from ever playing any MVC team, even on their own home court!

In 1982, Bradley failed to get an at-large bid after winning the MVC regular season title (lost to ISU in tourney semi's). Dick Versace called out Boston College (coached by current Drake head man Tom Davis) for getting into the field (48-team affair then). BC responded by making a run to the Elite 8. Bradley won the NIT, so it was sorta win-win for the Eagles and Braves as far as proving a point. Maryland made no statement with their loss Saturday. Even if we don't beat Pitt today, we proved we belonged in the field with our win Friday.
