SIU's Anthony Beane is Player of the week

Nick Banyard of ISU is Newcomer of the Week-
he had 9 pts against Bradley and had an 18-pt game against UE
...shows the value of the award-winner's team winning their games, since DLO's 18pt/7 reb + 11 pt games are every bit as numerically impressive as Banyard's 18 pt/4 reb + 9 pt games

MVC Player of the Week is SIU's Anthony Beane, who had back to back games of 31 points, both of which SIU won.

Newcomer of the Week is ISU's Nick Banyard. He had 18 pts in ISU's win at Evansville and averaged 13.5 pts, 4.5 rbs in two ISU wins.

there were a lot of good performances this week - but I have to think the awards won't go to a player on a team who lost both games this week.

Wichita won three games (New Mexico State, Missouri State, Indiana State) and their leader Fred Van Vleet had three solid games (12 pts/7 asst, 15 pts/5 asst, 9 pts/8 asst) and had only three turnovers (one in each game) to go with those 20 assists.
        I think that beats Mockevicius' double-doubles and Balentine's 53 points/2 games
PLUS- the Shockers clinched the MVC regular season title and this --- > LINK

the Newcomer award is a tough one, too.
I'd like to hope Antoine Pittman's fine 20-point performance that got Bradley a win - would be the selection..
but Dequon Miller had a couple good games even tho his team lost both, and Obediah Church had a nice 14 pt/8 reb game - but again lost both games.
Go Braves & MVC- give it to AP!!!

If I had a POW vote, it would be for Zach Brown. Overall great week for him. Really stepping up as a leader and being aggressive.

DLO maybe the Newcomer of the Week again?
one game was 11 pts, 8 rebs, and 7 assists
then today 19 pts, 4 reb, 2 asst

Anton Grady's team won both games, tho - so he's likely, too

Here are the best performances this past week:

              For Player of the Week
              Van Vleet 16 pt/9 rebs & 7 pts/7 reb/7 asst
              Mockevicius 17 pts/20 rebs & 14 pts/16 rebs
              Balentine 22 pts & 19 pts

              ...prob give it to Fred...

              For Newcomer of the Week
              Anton Grady 16 pts/5 rebs & 17 pts/5 reb
              DLO 11 pts/8 rebs/7 asst & 19 pts/4 rebs/2 asst
              Dominik Olejniczak 12 pts/6 rebs & 19 pts/9 reb - but Drake lost two
              Jarrid Dixon 10 pts/10 rebs & 13 pts/4 asst

Grady will probably get it because his team won two games - but the other three also had good weeks

Player of the week goes to ... Washpun? Don't agree with that one at all.

Grady wins newcomer of the week.

Washpun averaged 15 ppg & 3.5 assts but took a fair number of shots (9-20)..
He had a nice week, my guess is that helping his team overtake SIU for the 4th seed by knocking off Evansville impressed someone at MVC, even tho the only thing it does is changes UNI from wearing their purple jerseys top getting to wear the white ones Friday...and giving his team a distant shot at an NIT bid, but probably more likely CBI.

The MVC will also be naming their end-of-year awards this week (Player of the Year, All Conference teams). Those have always been announced the Tuesday before the tournament starts, so we should hear those tomorrow (Tues. Mar. 1), and the remaining specialty awards on Wednesday.
