well, let's speculate on who's gonna win the MVC weekly awards this week...
Each MVC team has played two conference games in that interval...and only 3 of them won both games (Wichita, Evansville, & SIU) - UNI & Indiana State both went 1-1 and I kinda doubt the awards will go to anyone whose teams lost both games.
Thus, the only serious candidates in my observation are:
Mockevicius, of course, with games of 22 pts/16 rebs/4 blk and 21 pts/21 rebs/
DJ Balentine with games of 22 pts/9 reb/5 asst and 19 pts
Anthony Beane with games of 26 pts and 32 pts
Akoon-Purcell with games of and 14 pts and 28 pts
...so the obvious winner should be Mockevicius but he's been snubbed before with similar numbers - so I wouldn't doubt they might give it to the trendy pick, Beane, before SIU falls off the pace...
For Newcomer - nobody really stood out but Markis McDuffie was game high scorer with 14 pts/6 rebs vs. Bradley tho his other game was not impressive.
Last week's winner Kale Abrahamson had games of 12 pts (but 5 turnovers) and 5 pts - so he's not in the running this week.
I think McDuffie gets it over the SIU newcomers (Rodriguez, Vincent) as Wichita really needs the extra press right now with their RPI sitting at 83.

Co-Players of the week
Mock and Beane
Newcomer of the week was Dequan Miller from MSU. Interesting choice.
So- let's speculate, who had a good week this week?
nobody really had any eye-popping stats or games this week so it's gonna be difficult saying who wins the award
The usual guys like Balentine & Mockevicius actually had decent but sub-par games - although Balentine had games of 14 & 16
Matt Bohannon had games of 15 & 21
Fred Van Vleet had two solid games 16 pts/9 asst & 6 pts/12 rebs
InSU had two guys who played well - Brenton Scott (14 & 4, 25 & 9) and Devonte Brown (27pt/8reb & 15/3)
Anton Grady had a 17/7 game & Obediah Church had two solid games and Missouri State won twice
Did I miss anyone else?
I think the winners will be one of the InSU guys & Church
well Fred Van Vleet gets the Player of the Week award..
Dequon Miller wins the Newcomer again- not so much for his stats, but for hitting a couple game winner, buzzer-beaters
looks like the weekly awards will be delayed til tomorrow - holiday today...
Here's a few of the candidates...
for Player of the Week - I'd give it to Big E
Mockevicius as always had two good games - 21pt/12reb, & 13pt/20reb
Balentine 24pt/5reb, & 24 pt
InSU's Brenton Scott had 30 pt/8reb & 24 pt/5 reb - Indiana State went 1-1 - strong candidate - I wouldn't be surprised
Anthony Beane had 26 pts then 12 pts - SIU went 2-0
Reed Timmer had games of 19 pts & 24 pts but Drake went 0-2
Van Vleet had a 29 pt game but his other game was just 4 pts
for Newcomer - not a lot of options...
Leo Vincent had one game of 24 pts, but his other game was 12 pts
Dequon Miller had one game of 17 pts but then Bradley held him scoreless
But here's who I think ought to win the Newcomer of the Week Callum Barker had games of 10 points/9 rebounds & 12 points/13 rebounds and stayed out of foul trouble & didn't turn it over!
I think this is the best performance of the week by a newcomer !!
Player of the Week-
Egidijus Mockevicius, Evansville
Newcomer of the Week-
Leo Vincent, Southern Illinois
Callum Barker listed among the other Top Performances- Callum Barker, BRAD -- Averaged 11.0 points and 11.0 rebounds in Bradley’s two games last week ... In Saturday’s game versus Missouri State, Barker turned in his first career double-double with 12 points and a career-best 13 rebounds ... Barker made 7-of-13 (.538 ) field goal attempts and 8-of-11 (.727) free throw attempts in the two games last week.
Dequon Miller has a shot at another Newcomer of the Week award hitting the game winner vs. ISU, but Ronnie Suggs & Jarrid Dixon also both had good weeks
WICHITA, Kan. – A day after scoring a career-high 32 points in Sunday's win at Evansville, Wichita State point guard Fred VanVleet was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, Monday.
Candidates for this week include DLO since he had a nice game of 18 pts & 7 rebs - but his other game was 11 & 4
No other newcomer had awesome games but Dixon, Dequon Miller & Abrahamson had nice games
In the Player of the week race it is gonna be tough
Mockevicius had 16 pts/10 rebs and 24 pts/16 rebs
but Anthony Beane had two games of 31 pts/6 rebs
..and Camyn Boone had a 30 pt/12 reb game
