  • MVC Player of the Week - Dec. 7

    This weeks awards go to...

Player of the Week- Evansville's DJ Balentine (although both SIU's Anthony Beane and Evansville's Mockevicius with 2 double-doubles also coulda gotten it)
Newcomer of the Week - Missouri State's Dequon Miller

This week's winners will be interesting...

statistically, the guy who had the best two games might have been Drake's Reed Timmer - one game he scored 30 pts...but Drake LOST both games...

Jesperson, Mockevicius, Beane, and Missouri State's Camyn Boone all had very good games as well...but regardless of how common the guy keeps doing it, I sure hope the league doesn't snub Egidijus Mockevicius this week....
All the guy did was have games of 22pts/12rebs & 16pts/18rebs - nobody else in the league is doing anything like that!
On top of that, Mockevicius may well be one of the MVC's best big men in years and maybe an NBA-caliber player - he deserves more publicity--
I bet hardly anyone outside Evansville and a few other knowlegable MVC fans even know the guy...
I think the MVC needs to give the guy the credit he deserves, and if he makes it in the NBA, he'll be paying the MVC back!

The Newcomer choice is gonna be harder - nobody really stood out- maybe Banyard, McDuffie or Rodriguez, but almost all the Valley teams lost this week...so I'd maybe give it to McDuffie

I'm biased, but its gotta be McDuffie. Utah was getting back into the game (as close as 3 if I remember right). Then McDuffie nailed a 4 point play, followed by another 3 shortly after to put WSU up double digits and WSU ran away from there. That stretch was key to the win.

        I guess I am a little surprised...but only a little...

Player of the Week for this week - Fred Van Vleet
        Newcomer- Dequan Miller

but nobody will ever convince me a guy who averaged 19 pts & 15 rebounds didn't deserve it this week --
kinda like when we had Hersey and everyone was so used to Hersey scoring 33+ that when he had just 28 on a dozen shots with 8 rebs and 4 steals he didn't get noticed or they thought he had a bad game...

Fred was probably the most important player this week against the toughest 2 games that MVC won, but didn't really put up crazy stats. I'm a little surprised too.
