No Offense!

Our offense is anemic and very passive. No quickness at all and we do not attack. Little movement away from the ball.
Our freshmen should be playing better than this by now. Our kids seem 100% unsure of themselves on shots and don't seem to know what to do with the ball in the halfcourt.
Versace used to preach loudly against cross court passes and "thread-the-needle" passes. Our kids need to learn that these usually result in turnovers.
21 turnovers and 41% free throw shooting! I don't mean to be negative and I'm still hopeful that BW can get things turned around but if we couldn't beat these guys on our court, its hard to see us winning another game this year.

You hit the nail right on the head. The only thing I would add is this. Either you can or you can't shoot free throws. There is no in between and there is no such thing as a good free throw shooter being inconsistent from the line. If you can't shoot free throws, you can't shoot when you are guarded with a hand in your face. This program desperately needs multiple good shooters as well as a point guard and there are no scholarships available.

Fans are going to have to be very patient.

..and I know they are freshmen but they have all been playing basketball for 12-15 years...
there is little excuse for all the turnovers....
...stepping on the endline, dribbling into the corner & getting double-teamed, dribbling it off your foot, shuffling your feet, lane violations, moving screens, offensive fouls, airballs...
from what the fans in my area were talking about, it's the multiple, consecutive trips down the court that we don't even get a shot before we turn the ball over on a silly, unforced turnover that is most frustrating.

This is where senior leadership would have come in really handy - but we have virtually no seniors & we have no senior leadership.

No, but I do blame the predicted fallout for years of losing, and now another couple years of rebuilding with a team of virtually all inexperienced freshmen.

After last night it certainly looks that way??Š.some of those decisions were unbelievable really. I mean Pittman taking 3 dribbles with 1.1 left was a shock.
Junior high kids know that. I thought we did a good job getting him the ball basically going toward the basket??Š??Šthat normally doesn't happen in those situations??Š

I still have faith in Wardle and staff??Š.we just need to be patient

Recruiting Talent

Unfortunately, IMO, it seems that with a couple of exceptions, we have recruited players who are simply not talented or mentally tough enough to play at the MVC level or contribute to the rebuilding of the Bradley Basketball program.
I realize that last spring we had to sign players quickly and sometimes without doing a full evaluation to fill our depleated roster and we are now paying the price for this. Our ability to accurately evaluate the talent of potential recruits now appears to me to be very suspect.

I agree with part of your post- I think Wardle did a great job with what was available to him in April and May, after 99% of the D1 talent is already committed, and considering the absolute garbage pile of talent he was left with.

But I think you are being very premature in assessing the talent we have and the coaching staff's ability to evaluate talent. After 4 seasons of the absolute worst talent evaluating under Geno & friends, I don't see how you can make this assessment after just 9 games.
We've seen these players play extremely well for stretches- like against Arizona (2 possession game at halftime), Seton Hall (Bradley outscored them in 2nd half), Towson (they are now 6-3 and have won 5 games in a row and Bradley lost by just 2), and Ole Miss (played them even for 1st half).
I still think many of the mistakes are correctable (overdribbling, bad passing, mental mistakes) and would be significantly improved with better point guard play.

I agree with DC. Part of the issue under Geno was that he didn't get any development from any of his players. Guys like Swopshire, Shayok, Crawford, Taylor, and even Bell all showed a flash or two in their freshman season, and then were either encouraged to leave or saw their skills stagnate. That's why this coming offseason and next season are so important. We can't tell what these players will be like as seniors, but they have shown enough to make me optimistic. No need to overreact right now, and none of the players look too small for their position/too unathletic to keep up at this level.

Have to be patient, and have a little faith in the head honcho. For another year or 2 anyways.

I agree??ŠUsually you don't have that many freshman playing together. I think several of our freshman would look better if there was decent upperclassman playing with them

If this is the style of basketball we are going to have under Coach Waddle we are in for some boring basketball.All they can do is pass until the shot clock expires and hope to come up with something.Bad basketball!!!
