Nice column in the Australian press on Jayden Hodgson
He says playing PREP SCHOOL basketball at Arlington Country Day School prepared him better than even playing against pros
in the Australian professional league!! He states that the caliber of athletes & players was superior to their pro leagues!
"Being in the US environment prepared me a lot, more so than anything back in Australia.
"(In Australia) ...you don’t have the calibre of athletes and the length that you’ll be playing at college,
where at a US high school, you’re going against it day in and day out.
There are things you can get away with vs. Australian players that you can’t over there.
Everything needs to be crisper; you need to make the pass a second quicker, throw it an inch further in front,
and need to be a lot stronger with the ball.I expected it to be really athletic and much faster,
but it was totally different to what I’ve played before.
It was more athletic than the NBL.
It took a while to get used to it. But having now already played against the college-level athlete was huge for me.
Now, when I first start college I don’t have to get used to the style and level of play –
it was great for me, and I’m very glad I did it."
Then - as for coming to Bradley...
"In year one, I believe I can come in and start.
If I don’t, then it’s my own fault.
It’s a great fit for me. I can see myself being the leader from day one.
It’s a really young team, with seven sophomores and five freshmen for next season,
so I think I can be one of the main players right away.
They play a style that really suits me, and I’ll have freedom to go out and play my game.
The coaching staff wanted me for me, so that was a big factor in my decision."
