Here is an example of allowing the inmates to run the asylum, albeit at a low level of the NCAA.
An NCAA Division III school in New Jersey, William Paterson University, fired their basketball coach this past weekend over some undisclosed issue apparently regarding his use of school facilities for his own personal basketball camp.
So then, the team had their first scheduled home game after the coach's firing on Tuesday night, and the players prepared as usual for the game, the visiting team traveled for the game, and tickets were sold.
But after going through all their usual warm ups and drills, after the starting lineups were announced, and right before the game was about to start, every player on William Paterson took off their jerseys, piled them at center court, and walked off the court in a planned and organized protest of their coach's firing. William Paterson University was forced to forfeit the game.
The school has not announced what action they will take after last night's forfeited game, whether they will cancel their season, or whether they will cave, and allow the players to return to the team now that they have made their point.
I know what I would do if I ran the school, but then now it seems we keep seeing college administrators coddling and giving in to this grown-up, spoiled, "participation trophy" generation
