I saw him play at the TOC in Washington. In my opinion, he is a project and won't help us until he is at least a sophomore or maybe a junior. He hasn't been playing that long and will improve. We just don't have the luxury of getting projects.
..We just don't have the luxury of getting projects.
we have about a dozen now, and honestly I think Koch Bar will get better challenged and "developed" right where he is than any other high schooler we're gonna get.
Everyone was expected to give Geno four years - plus the media gurus said we needed to be patient and give him several more and Dr. Cross chided the fans for being too impatient and expecting too much -
so now we're only a little over 1/3 way thru year 1 under BW - I think we are simply seeing what a truly empty cupboard looks like.

You're right...we do have several projects and the cupboard was bare. Wardle must be given a chance to build the program. Ford failed, Cross failed and everybody has their own opinion about the media gurus. None of that really matters now unless people want to dwell on the past. The future is now. Unless there are multiple players that leave, this program is going to be unable to recruit better players due to a lack of scholarships. It is also difficult to recruit players when there are very little scholarships available.
I'm certain Coach Wardle realizes that the quality of player needed to compete in the Valley is much different than the quality of player needed to compete in the Horizon League. It is now up to the coach to get those types of players. He was behind the 8 ball from the beginning. Now he must change that. I am still hopeful he will. It will however be difficult to do with all the players from his first recruiting class.
After a nice Holiday weekend off, now Koch Bar & Arlington Country Day are off to for another really big time tourney in Kentucky with all the top prep schools in the nation competing...they begin play on Thursday.
The Mustang Madness hosts ACD, Sunrise Prep, Huntington Prep, Advanced International Prep, 22-ft Academy, Canada's Athlete Institute, Word of God Christian (John Wall's and current top rated Rawle Alkins' team), QEA, Hillcrest Academy, etc..
Google maps say it's less than a 5-hour drive so wonder if someone from our staff might go down there Thursday & Friday.
BTW- they say there will be live streaming...ACD's first two games are Thursday (1/7) at 9:30pm & Friday (1/8 ) at 6pm (same time zone as us)
(then their schedule shows 2 more games on 1/9 & 1/10 depending out the outcome of the first two games)
Arlington Country Day 78 - 22FT Academy 71 (don't have stats for all players)
For ACD Luguentz Dort 28 pts, and for 22FT Academy - Eli Wright & Darius Hicks both had 19
QEA beat Sunrise by 65-47
BTW - the fee for the streaming of this high school event is $39.95
ACD's game last night...
ACD lost to a powerful prep team from California 80-58, Prolific Prep has a UConn commit Vanch Jackson who scored 24.
Luguentz Dort had 33 pts, no word on other stats.

Do NCAA rules allow a coach to drop a player(s) who satisfy academic requirements, but do not play well on the court?
scholarships are virtually always awarded year by year - no player automatically deserves one beyond the year he's currently using (**unless by special agreement very few schools are guaranteeing 4-yr rides as a recruiting tool) so of course any scholarship player can go elsewhere next season..
when multi-year scholarships were proposed & enacted, the members of NCAA Division I conductes a vote to override and cancel this rule.
Of the 330 schools who cast votes, 62.12% (205 out of 330) voted to rescind the rule but 62.5% was needed!
Thus multi-year scholarships passed by about 1/3 of one percent, so if just 2 schools had voted the other way or if just four of the schools that neglected to vote had cast an override vote, the measure would not have passed.

As tornado said- the answer is yes. There is no NCAA rule that requires that a student-athlete's scholarship must be renewed each year. It is entirely up to the coach and AD, even if the player fulfills all requirements. And it happens every year at a large number of schools.

Thank you Tornado. Informative and comprehensive as usual!
So that means that Coach Wardle will probably drop the ineffective players, certainly those that dont put forth effort?
The only time you generally see athletic scholarships pulled by a coach are when players run into academic problems or break team rules. Now, with that being said, players that leave programs, most generally leave on their own free will, but are helped out the door. Coaches make them aware that playing time is going to be virtually zero and they help the player find a scholarship at another school. The last thing schools want is a reputation as a school that doesn't honor athletic scholarships.
I really believe the coaching staff is getting effort from the players and the players are good people. They just aren't very good and most of them don't have much potential for the type of development we need to be competitive.

It happens quite often that kids are run off simply because the coach thinks he can recruit someone who helps the team more.
Jalen Crawford, Shayok Shayok, Donivine Stewart, Devon Hodges, Jordan Swopshire, and Stefan Zecevic were all run off by Geno.
Warren Jones, Tramique Sutherland, Kendahl Amerson, and Jermaine Morgan were all told to leave by Wardle. There was obviously rules violation issues with Jones.
