Missouri State is playing an early game vs. Butler in Puerto Rico and doing poorly
Butler 49 - Missouri State 25 at half
Illinois State hosts South Dakota State at 7pm
Bradley plays Virginia at 8:30pm
The Butler-Missouri State game is on ESPNU. MSU looks terrible. They are shooting poorly from outside (1-7 from three so far), getting almost nothing inside, rebounding poorly, and turning the ball over a lot (10 turnovers to 2 for Butler). On top of that, MSU's big men all are in foul trouble. They have 20 team fouls early in the second half. Butler is a well coached team that passes and shoots very well, but they do not have the talent and size they had a couple years ago.

The ESPN play-by-play guy is Kurt Pegler (Bob Morris is analyst). South Dakota State looks like a good team, well coached, with good shooters. This will be a tough game for ISU.
But what is most noticeable watching on ESPN3 is the large number of unoccupied seats. In some of the prime side court sections, there are as many empty seats than fans. And some of the less desirable sections and the entire upper bowl are nearly empty. Where are all the fans?

ISU has better athletes, but they seem to play way too much 1 on 5 style, similar to how Geno Ford's teams played. There is almost no playmaking by the point guard, rare assists (nobody on ISU has more than 1 assist!), and an excess of turnovers by ISU.
ISU now getting blown out by South Dakota State 66-37 with 12:40 left. Most of ISU's possessions in the 2nd half involve end to end dribbling and shooting with no passing. rarely, they might have a possession with 1 pass at the most. They just got their first assist of the 2nd half, and their shooting percentage has dropped to 31% with 14 turnovers. Their defense is poor, and they are getting out-rebounded badly by the smaller, less athletic Jackrabbits.

Attendance at ISU tonight was 4,107. That is pathetic. They have 20,000+ students, and they only drew 4,107. There were tons of no-shows, too.
Here are the attendances in the MVC so far. Bradley's home attendance of 6,553 ranks a clear 2nd in average attendance in the Valley to Wichita State, and 2,000 per game ahead of anyone else. And the attendance will get better.
