There are 3 MVC games today, Tues. 11/17

Northern Iowa is late in their game against Stephen F. Austin as part of the ESPN Tip-Off Marathon. The game started at 7:00 AM in Cedar Falls. Looks like not many students or other fans got up early to attend this game. Tons of open seats in every section.

Northern Iowa holds an 11 point lead with about 3 minutes to go in the game-

But UNI still appears to have a couple areas of potential weakness. Again they have almost no inside game. They start 4 guards, and get virtually all their scoring from their guards. It didn't hurt them as much as it did their last game (a home loss to Colorado State), because SFA players accumulated a lot of fouls early that made it easier for the UNI guards to penetrate and get easy shots and free throws. The only bench help they get are from guards as well. They shot and rebounded well today.

The game on ESPN2 now is Valparaiso at Rhode Island, featuring Alec Peters

31 of their 34 rebounds were by guards - I don't think I have ever seen such a game!

Their game against UNC is going to be bad. I hope they hold their own, but I can't see it happening with how little inside production they get.

That Stephen F Austin team (that UNI just got by) was absolutely pasted by 42 points in their opening game against Baylor.

UNI fans are already spinning it as SFA could potentially be a top 25ish team by season's end. Give me a break!!! Think UNI is in for a loooooong season and looking at the Panther's pre-Valley schedule, I could see them going 5-8....OUCH.

Their top four guys have played 30-38 minutes in each of their first two games..
They don't go very deep - wonder if they'll last all season

UNI is really hampered by the suspension of Klint Carlson. He will be their 4 man off the bench and Jake singled him out as having the best Fall practice of anyone. It's a major issue for these 3 games b/c his ability to play the 4 or 5 doesn't allow Paul Jesperson to not play minutes at the 4 or 5 (and he's ideally a 3, but satisfactory 4 against most teams not named UNC/Oklahoma. I fully expect Klint to play 20 min a game and thus decreasing the other guards' minutes. I expect only Wes and one other to average 30 min/game. We have no bench versatility without Klint (while RS all the freshmen). I anticipate a 9 player rotation (with Knar playing sparingly).

SFA is a good team that will win 20 games this year. They've averaged 30 the last 2 years but won't be as good, nor a top 25 team (which I haven't seen that prognosis).

Wichita State got beat at Tulsa 77-67. Van Vleet, who was questionable, played the full game. Not much bench help today. And it looks like another foul-fest.
