Loyola gets their 1st 2017 commitment - and only the 2nd 2017 verbal thus far in the entire MVC

Cameron Krutwig (6-9, 270lb) from Algonquin Jacobs HS - rated by some as perhaps the top big man in Illinois in 2017 - LINK - LINK - but that will change if Jeremiah Tilmon enrolls at East St. Louis as I have heard he will from a pretty good source..

Krutwig is a 3-Star who also held offers from Evansville, SIU, NIU, Milwaukee, UIC, UC-Davis, and a few MAC schools among others..

Cameron's older brother Conrad Krutwig (Class of 2009 - who played here in 2012 when Bradley faced Parkside in exhibition play), was a very similar player - who first went to South Dakota then transferred to Wisconsin-Parkside and who was also ranked among the top big men in IL back in 2009.

In 2009, the Top four big men in IL according to one ranking were
Jordan Prosser, Conrad Krutwig, Marcus Yarbrough (older brother of ISU's Milik Yarbrough), and Jack Cooley

Doesn't this now put us one over for 2017?

Bradley is at the maximum of 13 scholarships for this year, 2016-2017. And we have no seniors, so if everyone currently on the roster returns, yes, this would put us over the limit of 13. But that rule only applies to the current year, so something will change by next year to accomodate this addition..

If current history holds, I would expect that Bradley would continue to recruit at least two more positions. There is usually big fluctuations in rosters when trying to rebuild a program. Some may just see that playing time will be minimal and decide to transfer. I know, this is all obvious.

Evansville Lands Silas Adheke, a 6-8 Nigerian from Hamilton Heights Academy in Chattanooga, TN
in many places he is said to be a 2016 recruit but most places say 2017.

He just started playing basketball about 3 years ago
A son is a reflection of his father. Because of that and despite being more than 9,700 miles from home, 16-year-old Silas Adheke works every day toward following in his father's footsteps to become a provider for his family.

Silas Adheke from Nigeria originally, is a 6-8 forward who played AAU for the St. Louis Eagles and went to high school at Hamilton Heights Academy in Chattanooga, TN
According to his team's web site he averaged 8 ppg, 5 rpg

He was apparently just offered about 3 weeks ago by Evansville ....
There's even virtually no mention of him by Evansville fans but they believe him to be 2017 based on that CourierPress column
Some of the Aces fans expect Adheke to redshirt..

One interesting story that mentions Adheke - a column from 2014 about his high school, Hamilton Heights Academy...
details how they changed their entire plans a few years ago and began taking foreign students who were basketball players...
and they specifically give as examples that "American Universities" contact them (presumably just call them on the phone) and arrange for the foreign player that they are recruiting or are interested in.... to be brought over and enroll to play basketball at Hamilton Heights...
This brought in a lot of big $$ from sources that they had never dreamed would funnel money to the school and help them "pay the bills"...

"That expansion into Europe was a key to the long-reaching goals for
basketball at the small church school sandwiched between a real estate office
and a tea room on Hickory Valley Road.

“We had an American university that was trying to bring a player, a junior they
were recruiting, to America,” Stone said Wednesday. “They wanted to go ahead
                    and get him over here...

That leap of faith to seek student-athletes from across the Atlantic Ocean
has elevated the Hawks’ program to near elite status among the nation’s top
basketball schools, most of which are sponsored by shoe-makers such as
                    Nike and adidas."
(as well as the American schools "helping them out"
...to "provide scholarships" for the international blue-chippers...)
"There are plenty of international players .....“I probably turn down 50 kids a year.
We have almost 20 kids on scholarship playing college ball right now."

so in effect, they are a good private school that has been in existence for decades but they kind of found a real cash-cow doing this foreign basketball-prep school thing.....this kind of answers why so many schools lately are going this route, it's the financial lure....
--- all the Florida prep schools we've been talking about, Boys to Men, Decatur Christian, Traders Point, La Lumiere, Brehm Prep, Mooseheart, Culver Academy, etc...

Drake just landed another 2017 verbal...
Tai Bibbs from West Chicago - a 6-1 combo guard that seems reminiscent of a smaller version of Ore Arogundade

                      also added the ISU verbal

                      2017
Bradley - Ryan Stipanovich - LINK (0 open scholarships)
Drake - Teyvion Kirk, Tai Bibbs (0 scholarship currently open)
Evansville - Silas Adheke (4 scholarships currently open)
Illinois State - William Tinsley (1 scholarship currently open)
Indiana State - (4 scholarships currently open)
Loyola - Cameron Krutwig (0 scholarships currently open)
Missouri State - (3 scholarships currently open)
UNI - Austin Phyfe (1 scholarships left for 2017)
SIU - (5 scholarships currently open)
Wichita State - (1 scholarships currently open)

ISU just got their first commitment. William Tinsley from nearby Ridgeview High School and now Lake Land College. Know the family well. Had offers from a lot of mid-majors as well as Florida State. Had also heard from North Carolina recently. Great get for the Redbirds.

Cheering with pep and vim for the white and purple!

I remember him when he played at Ridgeview HS and lead them to 3rd place in the 2015 IHSA Class 1A State Tournament.
Here was another article about him from a month ago

Tinsley was a full qualifier out of high school according to the prior Jim Benson column, so why not go DI now?
Why if he has the skills would you want to waste another year of college eligibility at Lake Land juco if he is capable of helping a team right now?

Uh because he didn't start to get offers until most schools had filled their scholarships for this year. Went to top 100 JUCO exposure camp this summer and impressed a lot of schools. Wish he would have picked my Aces but has the chance to be a very good player.

sure, just asking, but many times we've heard the opposite argument that if the kid can transfer with 3 years of DI eligibility - it's infinitely better, -- Phil Fayne, Anthony Cousin, John Wilkins...

No way in the world a year at juco benefits a kid as much as a year at DI...and sometimes they regress - just ask DeAaron Williams or Shang Ping...and you can even take a redshirt year at DI if you want to...

spending that extra season of eligibility in juco generally does not lead to as much development and means the kid won't have the chance to start in the new DI system until a full year later.

if ISU wants him bad enough they'd have found a spot now but remember- the kid said he had Florida State, SIU, UE and others, too.....
