I've been around basketball for over 65 years coaching, playing, recruiting, and evaluating players for coaches and I realize that recruit talent evaluations are often subject to error when they are based on watching a player only a couple of times or watching videos. However, it's hard to understand how an evaluation of a player like Scottie James could be so wrong when he was a member of our team and our coaches saw him in practice and in games for well over a year. Apparently we were unable to coach, teach, motivate, or otherwise develop Scottie so we dumped him and now he's done a complete turnaround even though its in a weaker conference and on a weaker team than found in the MVC. It looks like Scottie was a late bloomer who could have benefited greatly from redshirting. He would still be a great addition to our squad going into next year especially when one looks at some of the disappointments we've recruited the last couple of years and our as yet, unfilled needs.

Scottie James could well have been the 2018-19 Preseason Player of the Year in the Big South Conference - except Liberty just switched to the A-Sun and so he'll be completely new to that conference & won't likely get the nod
He led the league in rebounding & FG% but also was among the leaders in scoring, FT% & blocks.
He was also 2nd team All Conference and 1st All Big South Tournament - led his team in scoring, rebounding, blocks and FG%,
all this after beginning the season as a bench player and having to play well enough to force the coach to play him as a starter.

....Former BU recruit Devin Whitelow, now just a freshman at DII power, Winona State
is undefeated at 3-0 and leads the team in scoring (15.3 ppg) shooting pct (18-35, 51.4%), 3-pt shooting pct (1.000), assists (3.3), FT% (89%)
and he ranks either 2nd or 3rd on the team in rebounding, steals, and minutes played...
Bradley recruited 2017 Washington HS guard Devin Whitelow as a walkon, but he ended up going to D2 Winona State. He is nearing the end of his sophomore season, and he is about to set the all time NCAA record (for any division 1, 2 or 3) for assists to turnover ratio. Currently, his assist/turnover ratio is 6.58. The all time D2 record is 5.65 (D1 is 5., nearly a full point lower than Whitelow's average. The player who ranks 2nd in D2 has a 2.5 assist/turnover ratio, more than 4 points lower. https://www.winonadailynews.com/spor...60beab52b.html
Last year as a freshman, he had a 4.12 assist to turnover ratio, which would have easily lead his league and would have been 2nd in the country, except barely missed the minimum requirements to qualify. He is also averaging 8.0 ppg, 4th highest on his team.
In his first season of professional basketball, Donte Thomas currently leads his Finnish team in scoring (15.9 ppg), rebounding (9.1), and FG% (64.2%). and blocks..
He plays for KTP Basket, a team contending in the Korisliiga, the highest pro league in Finland.
