Actually coach said VanVleet tweaked his ankle early which is why they took him out.

Guy just can't buy luck right now. Shox will need him soon, but for now it is allowing freshmen to get some valuable experience. Should pay off late in the season.

              Here's the ISU box score

ISU shot poorly and gave up 48%
              also outrebounded 45-33
Hard to believe they stayed as close as they did

Freshman Roland Griffin had 13 on 5-10 - expect he'll be starting soon
Akoon-Purcell zero rebounds, no assists & 3 turnovers

I se Gerry Pollard, John Higgins, & Kelly Self followed 'em all the way out to the west coast!

In the SIU - Air Force game...
SIU came back from 16 points down to win...but with 30 seconds to go the video feed went out and the Saluki fans were furious that they missed the crucial final 30 seconds!
                Don't blame them..

almost all the MVC games had the fans really exasperated with the refs

Finally - one game into the season...
of teams who have played DI opponents...

Bradley leads the MVC in team defense (53 pts allowed)
                FG% Defense (36%)
                2nd in rebounding (43/gm)
                2nd in blocks (5/gm)
and DLO is 4th in the MVC in scoring at 18ppg, Barker 8th at 14ppg
                Barker 4th in rebs (9/gm), Ogunleye 5th at 8/gm
                van Bree 2nd in blks
DLO leads in mpg (38 )

Here is another candidate for Freshman of the Year in the MVC.
Story from the Bloomington Pantagraph about freshman forward Roland Griffin from Aurora. He looked pretty good in ISU's opener Friday at San Diego State. He was ISU's leading scorer with 13 points, and he was 3-3 from the arc.

barring some great performance today by someone on SIU- I think the Newcomer of the Week is between DLO & Griffin but then they don't usually give it to someone whose team did not win during the week.

The newcomers that scored more than a dozen this week thus far were
DLO (18 ), Callum Barker (15), SIU's Mike Rodriguez (15), Schlatter, Shamet, Hamilton, Griffin (13) - six more newcomers scored 10-12 pts...
...but since Rodriguez gets a 2nd game this week - he has a chance, too

Those three players are pretty impressive for the Aces. They could win a lot of games this season if Marty doesn't coach too much?

they will need to be as it looks like the Aces are not getting much anywhere else

Illinois State plays their home opener....
and they play their home games ON-CAMPUS...and yet they have a bus to get the students to the game?

Wonder what they woulda said when I was in school at Bradley and I said I needed a BUS to give me a ride to the Fieldhouse or else I wasn't gonna go... LOL

Here are my guesses for the MVC Player of the Week and
the MVC Newcomer of the Week in the season's 1st week...
(*** disclaimer - I am pro-Bradley and I have been shocked before so I hope I am right this time on NOW)

-Evansville has only played one game but Egidijus Mockevicius is up to his old tricks already-
he scored 18 pts on 7-11, and grabbed 14 rebounds.....oh, and also blocked SIX shots
If anyone else gets the Player of the Week- then Big Mock needs to get a lawyer & sue..
(Indiana State's Devonte Brown did score 25 in the Syc's only game, but they lost!)

-Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye had 18 pts & 8 rebounds and helped a nearly all-freshman lineup to the big win over Ball State.
The closest any other newcomer had was maybe Callum Barker's 14 pt/9 rebound near-double-double and even more remotely the two Wichita freshmen who had 13 pts each...
BUT I think DLO deserves this one.
Worth mentioning- SIU's new juco point guard Mike Rodriguez did help the Salukis to two wins but I don't think averages of 12 pts/4 asst can trump DLO's 18 pts, 8 reb, 3 asst
(DLO was also credited with one steal but I think they missed a couple while they were trying to check the video review of who committed all those fouls )
