CBSSports.com's Jerry Palm just posted his projected preseason 2016 NCAA Tournament bracket-
CBS Sports is helping you get ready for March Madness with the latest news, picks, and predictions for the 2025 NCAA Basketball Tournament Bracket.

He gives Wichita State a #3 seed, but they are the only MVC team. He has 7 Big Ten teams in (Purdue, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State, Maryland, Iowa, and Indiana), with Ohio State among the first 4 out.
#1 seeds- North Carolina, Kentucky, Maryland, & Kansas.

ESPN's Joe Lunardi posted his preseason bracket over 3 months ago-

He had the same 4 teams as #1 seeds, and also had Wichita State as a #3 seed. But he only had 6 Big ten teams making the tournament. He left out Iowa, but lists Iowa and Illinois as the 5th and 6th teams left out. He also listed Northern Iowa as the #2 team left out.

With just 2?? weeks before Selection Sunday, here are the lastest projections for the NCAA brackets-

Jerry Palm's latest bracketology was posted yesterday (2/22/16). He has Wichita State as the only MVC as an 11 seed. That means Palm does not believe the Shockers will get an at-large bid if they do not get an automatic bid. Note that the 4 at-large teams in the "First Four" play-in round are all #10 seeds.-

Also, on this page, Palm cites Wichita State as on the outside, "needing work to do"-

ESPN's Joe Lunardi also posted his latest bracketology yesterday (2/22/16). Interesting that he has Wichita State in as a #7 seed. Their RPI is 44, and they are not in either Top 25 list. However, as a #7 seed, Lunardi apparently thinks they will get an at-large bid if needed.

Incidentally, a writer for the USA Today also has Wichita State as a #11 seed.

funny how (last November) he had Iowa and Illinois as right next to each other as the first teams out..
Now Iowa is battling for the top spot in the Big Ten and is a lock for the NCAA, while Illinois is alone in 12th place in the Big 10

Palm has gone on record saying he focuses ONLY on Top 50/100 wins. He completely ignores analytical rankings like KenPom/Sagarin etc etc.

During the mock selection earlier this month where the committee allowed media members to see the process, they showed that they look at RPI stats (Top 50/100 wins losses etc) but also include about 6 different analytical ranking with KenPom being one of the biggest. WSU's current rankings are

AP (reference only, not used): 29
        Coaches (same as above): 28
        RPI: 44
        KenPom: 10
        Sagarin: 19
        BPI: 22
        KPI: 39
        NPI: 14
        Massey: 25

If you just looked at Top 50/100 Wins/Losses then yes WSU needs to win out. The problem for Palm is that the NCAA committee looks at more than just that. When you factor in all the other analytical rankings, WSU is pretty far on the correct side of the bubble at this point. Palm is one of the few "bracketologists" that you can safely ignore.

There are also several intangibles. There are years when the NCAA has not given at-large bids to teams with RPIs in the 20's, and other years when teams with RPI's in the 60's were given bids. If WSU's RPI stays in the 44 range, I say it's about 50-50 they get an at-large bid, and it will depend on how many conference upsets there are that cause a non-deserving team to get an auto-bid.

Wichita will be in because of household names on the roster (Baker and Van Fleet). Just like LSU will be in because of Ben Simmons on their roster.

LSU cracks me up. I've seen people putting them in and at pretty high ranks due to a couple "quality wins" (RPI based), yet their RPI is floating in the 70 to 80 range. Talk about cherry picking your reasoning !

Wichita State will be in because they are the best team in the MVC.

Tonight's blowout loss to Arkansas ended any hope LSU had. All that crazy talk can stop now as their 90 RPI and 72 Pomeroy has them nowhere near the field.
