  • Wrapping my head around the stats of this season

    Things I wonder:

How many D1 teams in history have had 10 freshmen
What was those team's final records

    And related:
How many D1 teams have lost 12 roster players from the previous year
What was those team's final records

I can take a swipe at some of those questions, although in virtually every case the younger teams struggle to get wins...

    - in 2013-14 Kentucky was the youngest team in the nation (9 freshmen and the only 2 seniors played sparsely) and yet they made it to the Final Four and barely missed winning the National Championship.

-I know we are not Kentucky so most times there have been teams this young - they have taken their lumps.
In 2012 Missouri State rebuilt with 6 freshmen and won only 11 games- then they brought in three more freshmen in 2013-14...such that their with minutes were almost all freshmen & sophomores...
and in 2013-14 they won 20 games and the future looked bright...
unfortunately- everything then fell apart after that with injuries, arrests & departures.

Even Kentucky didn't have 10 freshman or lose 12 players. While perhaps not unprecedented, I can't recall. The bottom line is that it would be a huge surprise if Bradley put up many wins at all this year. OTOH, I am excited for the Braves future under Wardle and I hope the athletic department and fans give him more than the prerequisite 3 years to turn this program around.

        Reset Expectations

Regardless of player talent, or the capability of the new coaching staff, it will be very difficult for BU MBB this season and next due to players' inexperience at this level and the mutual inexperience with each other and the new coaching staff's systems.

BU may look worse this coming season than they really are/will be in a couple years with more experience, better understanding of the system and the players' physical maturity.

I'm hoping for hustle/effort, discipline, unselfish play, and improved fundamentals (FT% mostly)... Improved ability to compete will come over time and with talented recruits BU has on the way.
