"Bob's family was always proud of his impressive athletic background as a
three-sport college athlete, playing football, basketball and baseball. He
played end on the 1945 undefeated Oberlin College football team and broke
the college's scoring record in basketball. He was named to All-Ohio
basketball teams in 1945 and 1946. After leaving Oberlin, he completed his
education at Bradley University, where he played end on the 1946 Bradley
football team that finished 7-2 and was a member of the 1947 NIT basketball
team."
