Dave Reynolds has a column about Adam Miller, now playing for Manual...as he participates with the Manual team at the Richwoods Shootout.

However, one comment caught my eye..

"Saturday was the debut of the newest Ram — 6-foot-2 freshman phenom guard Adam Miller.

Miller.... had numerous choices when considering a high school. He looked at
Peoria High, but decided it wasn’t a good fit for him.
He checked out Chicago powerhouses Simeon and Morgan Park, as well.
“But I decided Manual was the best place for me.."

..must have free-agent status?

I noticed that too--also in the article was "mom teaches at Manual." So much for education first.

I just got home from a function for an official who is leaving this sorry state. Talked to a bunch of officials who worked the games at the shootout and every one said he was the real deal. We need to get on him at once if we haven't already. To a man they all said he was the next big D1 kid to come out of the city.

When was the last time we were able to recruit a basketball player from Bradley? The only ones I can recall go back several years.

It would be great if we could make a breakthrough with Manual players.

Honestly,this kid is already out of bradley's league and may be out of Illini's league. Miller is the best young talent that I've seen in years,he's already blowing up on the AAU circuit playing for Mac Irvin Fire and they have him playing up a age. I see this kid as a one and done playing at kentucky or north carolina when its all said and done.My nephew played with him for the last two years and they just won the national championship, this kid just toys with kids in his age group. I'm a Manual grad and he's the best freshman talent I've seen since Howard Nathan but the one thing Miller has over Nathan is that he's already 6' 2.Honestly IMO he's already the best player on Manual's team and that's including Williams. The problem is he's just a freshman and may have to take a back seat to Williams and Company for a year since there seniors. If Booth let's this kid loose this year the State better watch out. I will also like to mention that his grades aren't the best and that may hold him back from some schools.

That's rather high praise for an incoming Freshman. Sounds like he may end up going the prep school route if his grades are a problem. Given the article posted about him, it didn't seem like he was all that enthusiastic about going to Manual anyway.

The only Manual player from the past ten years that I feel Bradley missed on is Lawrence Alexander. I don't really blame Bradley for this, as Lawrence was usually playing out of position at Manual as he was usually the 2nd tallest player on the floor and Manual had plenty of guards. He ended up going the prep school route, where he played PG.

The other kids from the past 10 years that ended up playing D1 ball (Marvin Jordan, Paris Gulley, Jeff White, AJ Riley, Jacoby Roddy, etc.) don't feel like misses.

I'm not sure that Youngman and RDW would be good fits at Bradley either.

but Peyton Allen was said to already be out of Bradley's league and he went to Texas A&M...
and Larry Austin was said to be high major & out of Bradley's league...so he went to Xavier
..and several others...Max Bielfeldt, Marlion Stewart, Quinton Chievous, Matt Roth...many who then transferred down when they realized they aimed too high
..no reason we shouldn't at least let the kid know we're interested..

I grew up with Nathan and this kid is the best I've seen at a early age. I graduated from manual in 88 and have followed Manual basketball since 84, the only player's i could compare him to at his age is Frank Williams and Howard Nathan, but like I said his grades may hold him back, and it's not true that he really didn't want to attend manual, It was Manual all along,his mom is a teacher there, i don't know where the writer of the article got his information from, my nephew is one of his best friends and the only other school that I heard he may attend was Notre Dame. The writer trying to make him sound like a prima donna free agent and it was nothing like that. His dad that goes by the same name Adam Miller played for Wayne McClain at Manual in 99, he was a bad dude to. I would bet the farm that if this kid gets his grades in order you will see him in the NBA in like 5 years, he is just that good.The only reason I say he may be out of Bradley and Illini's league is because I see him as a future one and done (if those are still the rules when he enters college) and he's so competitive that he may want to compete for a NCAA Championship. My cousin follows the AAU circuit and he just told me yesterday that this kid is schooling the kids in his age group right now so bad that it looks staged, I told him I know, I've watched quite a few of his middle school games. Quite a few scouts has said it's not even close that he's the best player at his age in the state and some say he's the best in the COUNTRY.

Texas A&M and Xavier are high major schools so i still say Austin and Allen did alright.The players you mentioned can't compare to this kids talent and I knew none of them would make it at the high majors. Miller can play in the Missouri Valley right now and average double figures, I'm telling you he is just that good. When his middle school played in the National Championships a few months ago this kid had the crowd in disbelief. There wasn't many that I heard talk about him that didn't think he would be in the NBA when they seen him play at Nationals

Manual has four solid DI kids with Miller, AJ, Douglas-Watkins & Da'Monte Williams - possibly 5 if anyone else blows up...
and yet they didn't even win the local tourney?

I don't know his stats in the Richwoods Shootout - and I have no desire to disparage the kid...and who knows- he may end up being a superstar.....but let's not get ahead of ourselves....
I severely doubt the claim he'd be a scoring leader in the MVC right now.
...Did he even average double figures against a batch of high school opponents in the Shootout, that are largely going nowhere?

This is true. Adam may be a future NBA player, but I was reading similar reports about Donivine Stewart when he was in middle school. Some kids peak physically earlier then others and then fall behind their peers by the end of high school. Richard McBride and Mike Robinson are examples of other kids who were heralded as future NBA players before they started playing high school basketball. Mike Robinson was a McDonald's All-American, but he had no position by the time he got to college.

The fact that Adam is already 6'2 is good, although to be a one and done player, I'd expect him to be closer to 6'5 by the end of high school, even if he is a true PG. Is he a PG or a combo? I've never seen him play outside of clips on youtube, so I don't know.

Livingston managed to grow to 6'7 and remained a true PG, which is what propelled him to #2 in the national rankings in 2004, behind Dwight Howard. That's really the level he would need to be at in order to be a one and done type player.

yup - reminds of a few other past predictions - that Geno would get Bradley back to the NCAA within a couple years, and one guy claiming Nathan Kostner would dominate the MVC and another prediction by a prolific poster that the coaching staff at Binghamton were tremendous coaches and bound for great success - and that Bradley should clean house here and hire those guys.....then this happened - LINK
