Corey Hawkins did not play a lot in summer league action due to an injury, but the Miami Heat liked what they saw of him and have signed him to a contract for the upcoming season. The contract is not guaranteed, which is common for a non-drafted free-agent contracts, but even if he does not make the regular season roster, he will now be eligible to play for the Heat's team in the NBA Development League.

New reports says that Corey Hawkins' contract with the Heat IS guaranteed through January 10, 2016!
That's great news, so he'll get paid for nearly half the season even if injured or cut...
If he does not make the final cut for the Heat - they will have him join their D-League affiliate while he's still under contract.

Heat played their first preseason exhibition game last night...
They got creamed by the Hornets...90-77 and shot extremely poorly...
only 37% overall and just 16% (3-18 ) from 3-pt range...
(Hornets hit 12-29!!!)
THEY need Corey Hawkins!! He did not play yesterday.

After seeing action in 2 preseason games, the Miami Heat waived Corey Hawkins and signed another undrafted guard Briante Weber of VCU.
It is reported that the Heat still like Hawkins, and that it is likely he will end up on their NBA D-League team, the Sioux Falls Skyforce, after the NBA preseason ends.
