“I tell our student-athletes that where much is given, much is expected,” said Wardle. “Being a student-athlete at Bradley University is a privilege. In the classroom, community and on the floor, we have high expectations and standards in this program. When someone does not live up to them on a daily basis, changes need to be made. We are here to assist Warren if he would like to pursue other opportunities to continue his basketball career.”
I am thankful that Coach Wardle puts the dignity of the program and the value of discipline within the program ahead of anyone else's desire to slack off.
and mvcfan - I had the thread started about the same time as freak as the time stamps indicates - but da coach combined the two separate threads into one...
Unless that person could make a significant impact I think I would eat the scholarship and get your classes a little more balanced by bringing someone in next year. Figure out your biggest whole after this year and maybe even find a juco to address it.
btw - not only are most of the kids away from campus and nothing happening this week - but grades for quite a few of the summer classes are just being posted - coincidence??
Like you say, this team was not going to be very good, and not going to win many games. So in that case, it may actually be better that the young players and especially the freshmen will get more playing time, instead of it going to someone who wouldn't have even been back the next year. That would be good for guys like DLO, Antoine Pittman, Joel Okafor, Ronnie Suggs, and Donte Thomas. Some of those guys would have had a lot less playing time if Jones was playing 30 minutes a game.
Recall that Warren Jones was not recruited by any other school, and was signed extremely late in the recruiting cycle (end of April, 2014).
I believe that if Coach Wardle wants to re-use Jones' scholarship, that in all liklihood, he'd be able to land another juco player with equal skills and capabilities. But we know Coach Wardle does not appear to favor juco players.
I have heard that he has looked into several other 2015 recruits that are still out there and looking for a place to land. So it's possible that with this opening, he may still sign another player. If he does, I think it will happen quickly.
There are some 2015 guys that we have discussed who might be targets - two have just recently reclassified as 2016 but might still be viable targets plus a few of the DI transfers have not yet found a place to land - but I wouldn't be all that surprised either way if we fill it or not
Does anyone have any more information on this and why it has happened? I know there are speculations, just surprised there has been nothing solid posted. You can PM me if you want to keep it off of here...
I think we will hear more..but how often do we see a team that desperately needs a scorer - dismiss their best scorer - even their only scorer?
I think this speaks volumes, especially about Coach Wardle and his long range plan. Kudos.
Daniel Mortensen, a 6-8, 225-pound forward from Islev, Denmark, has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball and attend Wright State University this fall, WSU head coach Billy Donlon announced today.
