Update...just some comments I saw on a few of the freshmen in the MVC....

Scottie James - the few who have seen him play talk about excellent 3-pt shooting

Robin Thompson isn't really a true freshman - he played 8 games/started 3 last year then redshirted- average 1.6 ppg

Antoine Pittman in a new video- LINK

Emondre Rickman should get more playing time now that TJ Bell was injured & out for the year

Rudy Stradnieks played very little in his nation's U20 competition

Jarred Dixon avg 26 ppg in high school

Austin Weiher coming off redshirt year - still an unknown

Dominik Olejnikzak had some good games in Drake's foreign tour

Casey Schlatter had a 31-point game in their summer league over in Iowa but that's not too unusual as it seems little defense is played

Todd Golden, the beat writer for Indiana State still contends that Trey Knight is likely to redshirt and Bronson Kessinger "will redshirt for sure"

Here are the Wichita Freshman from L to R
#12 Brett Barney, #11 Landry Shamet, #10 Ty Taylor, #32 Markis McDuffie, #25 Eric Hamilton

Wichita's Shocker Madness is in the books...
based on multiple comments from observers - seems the Wichita freshmen are rated highly as they should be..

Shamet was very good - probably their best freshman
      Hamilton was also good
McDuffie - despite the hype seems to be a year away
Taylor looked good but as a PG where's he gonna play?
      The others were barely mentioned

Speaking of rediculously optimistic speculation regarding intrasquad skirmishes, Jarred Dixon for MSU looked like a Freshman who will get lots of minutes.

Every Valley team has played at least one open exhibition and Bradley has played two - all were wins and virtually all the MVC FRESHMEN played and we have a little chance to know what they have.

I re-shuffled this listing of MVC freshmen but I realize it's only one game (or two in Bradley's case)
But if the kid played, especially if he started and got a lot of playing time and/or looks to be a freshman who will be getting a lot of time,
or really produced - then he moves UP on the list - if not, then he doesn't move or he moves down.
But also - we see that a lot of these freshmen simply won't have anywhere to play as they have guys ahead of them.
..and please - just because they move up or down is not a slam or a claim they won't be good - just a subjective ranking at the current time.

Luuk van Bree, BU - starter, had one double double - maybe one of the two best freshman performances in the MVC thus far
Callum Barker, BU - a nice surprise - started & in double digits both exhibitions - and the other top performance in MVC
Joel Okafor, BU - starter - solid PG
Larry Shamet, Wichita - Started for the Shockers but prob won't when FVV back, 10 pts, 4 reb
Armond Fletcher, SIU - 10 pts, 4 rebs - one of the better freshman performances.
Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye, BU - starter, solid
Obediah Church, Missouri State - STARTED, 7 pts, 5 rebs
Roland Griffin, ISU - 8 pts, 5 rebs off the bench
Harris Brown, Evansville - 8 pts, 5 rebs
Tyrone Taylor, Wichita - 11 pts 2 rebs off the bench

Jarred Dixon, Missouri State - was one of two freshmen at MSU that started- 9 pts, 5 rebs
Ronnie Suggs, BU - started one game, looked good
Eric Hamilton, Wichita - 8 pts, 4 rebs off the bench
Markis McDuffee, Wichita - 4 pts, 6 rebs on a loaded WSU team
Emondre Rickman, Indiana State - 8 pts, 4 rebs off the bench
Davante Cooper, BU - looks to be our backup center
Scottie James, BU - flashes of nice ability off the bench
Antoine Pittman, BU - good production off the bench
Rudolfs Stradnieks, SIU - 7 pts, 4 rebs
Ryan Kreklow, Missouri State - 5 pts as a sub

Keyshawn Evans, ISU - didn't look as good- only 2 pts off the bench
Elvis Harvey, ISU - did not score - prob will be decent sub but has guys ahead of him
Luke McDonnell, UNI - 6 pts, 3 rebs
Billy Wampler, Drake - was a sub - had 5 pts
Dominik Olejnikzak, Drake - 3 pts, 6 rebs as a sub
David N'Diaye, ISU - 4 pts, 8 rebs but got eaten up trying to play defense- but might play as they are not deep in the paint
Spencer Haldeman, UNI - 5 pts, 2 reb
Austin Weiher, SIU - 6 pts, 5 rebs as a sub
Nick McGlynn, Drake - 5 pts off the bench
Laquarius Paige, Indiana State - still has not played - injured ankle

Joahannes Dolven, Drake - scoreless -
Robin Thompson, Missouri State - scoreless
            Pernell Adgei, Loyola - scoreless
Casey Schlatter, Drake - 6 pts

Lincoln Conrey, UNI - scored one pt
Brett Barney, Wichita State - 5 pts
Matt Hein, ISU - scoreless - surprised if he doesn't RS
Bronson Kessinger, Indiana State - not playing - maybe RS due to the prior injury

only one game for most of these players but I am gonna move a few of them around...
the four Bradley guys I have in the top tier definitely belong there as does Shamet & Griffin
the rest in the 1st tier did ok but I reshuffled some in the 2nd tier...especially Stradnieks and the Loyola frosh is gonna redshirt...and the Drake frosh really played a softie opponent so we don't really know yet.
In the end I figure only about a dozen freshmen will be battling for the All-Freshman Team

I have reshuffled the MVC freshmen based on what we've seen of their performances this first 4-5 games
Opponents have differed - Bradley has played two highly ranked teams.
The top ten guys and the bottom ten are a lot easier to rank right now than the the rest.

                        Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye, BU - starter, 11.4 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 3.2 apg
Obediah Church, Missouri State - starter, 8.5 ppg, 7.3 rpg
Luuk van Bree, BU - starter, 7.8 ppg, 3.4 rpg 35% on 3-pt shooting
Callum Barker, BU - starter, 9.8 ppg, 4.6 rpg
Landry Shamet, Wichita - 8.7 ppg, 2.7 rpg - may be out a month with injury
Dominik Olejnikzak, Drake - 7.3 ppg, 8.0 rpg (stats kinda beefed up due to one exhibition-caliber DII)
Armond Fletcher, SIU - 5.8 ppg, 2.5 rpg
Roland Griffin, ISU - 7.5 ppg, 4.0 rpg
Eric Hamilton, Wichita - 5.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg
Tyrone Taylor, Wichita - 6.3 ppg, 1.0 rpg

Ronnie Suggs, BU - starter, 6.4 ppg, 2.8 rpg
Antoine Pittman, BU - 4.0 ppg, 2.0 rpg, missed two games with injury
Jarred Dixon, Missouri State - 5.3 ppg, 1.3 rpg
Casey Schlatter, Drake - 6 ppg, 3.0 rpg

Davante Cooper, BU - 2.8 ppg, 2.2 rpg
Harris Brown, Evansville - 3.3 ppg, zero rebs
Billy Wampler, Drake - 4.3 ppg, 1.0 rpg
Pernell Adgei, Loyola - 3.7 ppg, 2.3 rpg only 8 min per game
Scottie James, BU - 2.0 ppg, 1.8 rpg

Markis McDuffie, Wichita - 2.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg - dropped in ranking, was way higher touted, yet min. productive even in garbage min. vs. DII
Emondre Rickman, Indiana State - 1.3 ppg, 2.3 rpg
Keyshawn Evans, ISU - 0.5 ppg, 0.8 rpg - playing minimally even against early opponents. Mighta benefited from RS - still might find a way
Austin Weiher, SIU - 2.3 ppg, 2.0 rpg - getting 15 min per game (7th most on SIU) due to shallow SIU frontcourt yet very low production.
Nick McGlynn, Drake - 5 pts off the bench - deep in rotation, 90% of his minutes thus far were in 97-52 blowout over Simpson

Laquarius Paige, Indiana State - 1.0 ppg, 0.5 rpg- coming off injury, getting limited minutes
David N'Diaye, ISU - 1.5 ppg, 1.5 rpg and 0-8 on FT .. a liability .. but ISU no depth @ post so still kinda need him/wouldn't surprise if he "finds" and way for medical RS.
Peter Hanley, BU - 0.8 ppg - has only played in one game
D'Angelo McBride, BU - has not played in regular season game

Robin Thompson, Missouri State - scoreless in 4 minutes in season opening loss to ORU. Gotta wonder why he'd blow a RS.
Ryan Kreklow, Missouri State - scoreless in 1 minute on one game - ditto
Johannes Dolven, Drake - scoreless but has not played - may be redshirting
Brett Barney, Wichita State - has not played - poss. redshirting
Bronson Kessinger, Indiana State - not playing - poss. redshirting
                        Luke McDonnell, UNI - redshirting

As stated in the injury thread. Shamet is likely out for a little while, So not sure how that will affect him. EDIT: Could be out 6-8 weeks apparently. Injury similar to Ron Baker's his freshman year.

Taylor will either take a step up ... or fall apart over the next few weeks. WSU will need to rely heavily on him.

Mcduffie will be good, but the game is moving too fast for him right now. He was the strongest redshirt candidate at the beginning of the year, but that's past now.

                          Barney is an announced Redshirt.

just going to keep tracking the top 25 or so frosh and not the ones who are redshirting or barely playing
The BU freshmen are getting a tremendous opportunity for extensive playing time but need to step up!

The race for MVC All Frosh is slowing down as a lot of the best freshmen are playing on poor teams...
All the MVC freshmen have faded a bit of late -- none are really doing outstanding...

The top two scoring freshmen in the MVC are both on Bradley (DLO-9.8ppg, Barker-8.2ppg) and 5 of the top nine (Pittman, van Bree, Suggs all between 5.9-6.3)
..but McDuffie is avg 7.7 for Wichita and Church 8.0 & 6.3 rebs for Missouri State, SIU's Fletcher & ISU's Griffin at just over 6ppg.
Shamet is kinda out of contention as he hasn't played enough for his stats to qualify

Just as a note. McDuffie is definitely trending upwards. In the last 4 games he's averaging 10.25 pts per game along with 3.25 reb and 2 steals per game. In the first 3 he averaged 1.6 pts (all off free throws), 2 reb, and 0 steals. So he's gaining confidence and will be one to look out for the rest of the year.

Shamet is out for at least probably 6 to 8 weeks, so barring an amazing last month, he's probably out of contention for Frosh of the year. He might end up with a medical redshirt anyways.
