I thought this thread ought to be on the general board & not just the recruit board...
speaking of clutch game winning shots....
I ran across an old video tape of those game winning shots by Hersey Hawkins back almost 30 years ago....in fact we're coming up on the 30-year anniversary of some of those shots...
The buzzer beater on the length of the court pass from Jimmy to Hersey to beat Drake was Jan. 11, 1986.
A remarkably similar play to beat Dayton occurred two nights later.
Jim Les had a pretty memorable one of his own, March 4, 1986, MVC Tourney win over ISU on a last second drive & shot.
There were other game-winning shots & buzzer-beaters that were highly memorable - Deon Jackson's, Rob Dye's game winner to beat ISU in '99, Chris Roberts' CIT game winner on March 23, 2009, Sam Singh's rebound putback at Wichita for the last time we've won down there, Taylor Brown had one in a preseason game- LINK, and Will Franklin also had a couple memorable game winners (LINK (over UNI in the MVC Tourney) - LINK - LINK - and although not a game-winner, there's Will Franklin's halftime buzzer-beater vs. Kansas in the NCAA - LINK)
Then maybe the last one we had - 3 seasons ago - Walt Lemon, Jr...
Hard to rank them but Deon's has to be #1 - then Hersey's, Jimmy's, & CRob's close behind....proves ya can have great games, great wins, and great memories even in down years!
Here's hoping this new crew of 2015 guys and 2016 recruits can bring back the excitement with more game-winners!!!
