And a reminder for anyone who needs a basketball fix in the summer- the championship game of The Basketball Tournament, between Team 23 (#13 seed) which includes former Bradley star Zach Andrews versus The Overseas Elite (a#3 seed) will be televised at 2:00 PM today (Sunday 8/2/15) on ESPN.

In yesterday's semifinal game, Zach started and played most of the first half. But Team 23 has another outstanding big man/center named Augustine Okosun, who played most of the 2nd half. They both play great defense, rebound well, and get points on put-backs and inside moves.

The other finalist team, Overseas Elite, has a couple big men on their roster named Jhondre Jefferson (played at South Carolina) and Shane Lawal (played at Wayne State). Jefferson was their primary big man early in the tournament, but he got injured, so they added Shane Lawal, who did a nice job in their semifinal game, allowing the shooters to spread the floor better and go 9-13 from three point range in the first half to help them win and advance.-

Overseas Elite is mainly a guard oriented team, and gets the majority of their points from perimeter shooting. The inside play favors Team 23, and they are possibly the best defensive team in the tournament, so it should be interesting to see if Team 23 and Zach Andrews can exploit the inside weakness of Overseas Elite, and if they will be able to defend against Overseas Elite's outstanding shooters.

Zach pretty much single-handedly gave his team the 10-0 lead they started the game with and then they somewhat
held most of that lead the entire rest of the way as the two teams appeared pretty evenly matched...
Thus Zach's spurt to start the game was the 'difference-maker'.

In the final game, Overseas Elite hung on for a 2-point win over Zach Andrews and team 23. The final score was Overseas Elite 67- Team 23 65.
So Zach just misses out on a share of the $1 million grand prize.

Zach had a shot in the air as the buzzer went off but it bounced off the rim and out - it may not have counted but it missed anyway..
Great run and a lot of press for Zach - hopefully he gets invited to some NBA preseason camp

The Basketball Tournament is back again this year for a 3rd year- this time the winner-take-all championship total is $2 million dollars to the winning team-

Recall that last summer, Zach Andrews was a key player on a team called "Team 23", that made it as a #13 seeded team all the way to the championship game, and lost by 2 points to a #3 seeded team called "Overseas Elite". Registration begins April 1st, and the games start July 9-10. I suspect we'll see Zach back in the tournament again, and maybe some other former Bradley players?
