  • Former BU recruit Peyton Allen transferring from Texas A&M

I've just heard that Peyton Allen is leaving Texas A&M after 1 year. He will be looking for another D1 school to transfer to, likely closer to home.
He actually played a lot as a freshman at Texas A&M- he appeared in 32 games and averaged 14 minutes per game. He averaged 4.5 ppg and shot 32.3% from three.

I would have to think he already has a destination firmly in mind, as this is a very odd time to "reopen" recruiting" - as most schools have tied up all their 2015 scholarships...
I wonder if maybe we have an unexpected opening and Peyton likes Coach Wardle.... hmmm...

      T, with apologies to Supertramp..

Dreamer, you know you are a dreamer
Well you can put your dream of Payton at BU out of your head, oh no!

I said, dreamer, you're nothing but a dreamer
Well you can put your wish for Payton Allen out of your head, oh no

I say, Far Out!, what an idea, a day, a month a summer it has been for BU MBB.

You know, well you know, the chances of Payton coming are few

And there's not a lot we can do...

For the record, Peyton Allen was hotly recruited by Bradley when Geno Ford was head coach, and I do not believe Brian Wardle ever recruited him, and probably does not have a prior strong connection with him. He will have a number of schools interested in him, and Bradley does not have any scholarships open. Though I think he is the kind of player Coach Wardle would like, it's not real likely to happen.

It wouldn't shock me to see Peyton end up at ISU.

I am not saying this couldn't happen, but ISU does have 13 scholarship players on their roster for 2015-16. That means they would have to somehow free up a scholarship, or hope they can get Peyton Allen to walk on for a full year.
I think he'll have no shortage of scholarship offers from other good midmajors.

I have heard that Peyton Allen has received his release from Texas A&M, and the early schools pursuing him are Butler, Indiana State, Illinois State, Drake, Northwestern, and Bradley.

I have heard from a reliable source that his family is willing to pay his way for the first year.

For what it's worth, here is the latest I have heard about Peyton Allen's decisions about where to transfer, and the news is not good for Bradley fans.
He has eliminated a couple schools, including Bradley, and one new schools is now suddenly in the mix- Wichita State, which called and got involved last night.

He is still considering Illinois State, Drake, Northwestern, and Wichita State. The only school that appears to have an open scholarship is Drake, but apparently, other schools have said they can find a way to open one for him.

Per Recon on the ISU board he is visiting ISU Saturday. ISU has an open practice to season ticket holders on Sunday. I bet if he is there for that Bird fans will be happy

There are reports that Peyton Allen will choose Wichita State - he won't be eligible until 2016
He's good but that might be the one place in the MVC where playing time will be hard to come by for Allen

if true - then it begs an interesting question...
who currently on the Wichita State roster is gonna be gone?
They are now one over the scholarship limit and all four incoming freshmen have signed LOI's
Gregg Marshall has been in this very position before and solved it by sending one of his freshmen LOI signees off to prep school..or just telling them to pay their own way

I can confirm that Peyton Allen has committed to Wichita State. It's likely the only MVC team where he won't see guaranteed playing time.

Wichita is about 80 miles closer to Chatham, Illinois (880 miles to College Station, TX versus 800 miles to Wichita), but as we have seen many times before, the "wants to play closer to home" excuse given for transferring is usually bogus.
