  • Chat session with Coach Wardle- Thursday June 25 at 11AM

Coach Wardle will be available to fans and will answer questions in a chat-room format, like we've done with past coaches. It will be Thursday, June 25, from 11 AM to noon.

We'll post more details and information about how to sign up to participate in the next few days. The chat will be open to all fans. You don't have to be a registered member here.

We thank Coach Wardle and Bobby Parker for this opportunity.

The chat session with Coach Wardle is still on for Thursday, June 25, from 11 AM to 12 Noon.

I have made a note of the previous suggestions for questions, and if anyone has any others, and cannot participate, please PM them to me or post them here.

For the Chat Session, we will be using a public chatroom called Chatzy that we have used many times before for in-game chats and for previous chats we have had with Coach Les, Coach Ford, and with AD Michael Cross.

I would suggest that those interested in participating go to this site and be sure you are registered and be prepared for Thursday. If you need help, send a Private Message to me, and I'll make sure you get registered. Please be sure to include your email address and the screen name you'd like to use. Please do not wait until Thursday to ask for help, as I will not be as available to help that day.

I have received a couple dozen questions from fans, and I'll try to ask them to Coach Wardle tomorrow. If anyone has others, PM or email them to me today.

There probably won't be time to get everyone's questions in to the hour-long chat session, so please be patient when posting questions in the chat room, and if we miss anyone's question, please repost it.

We have some great questions, and we should learn a lot of new information about Coach Wardle, his staff, and their coaching philosophies. As always, the Coach cannot answer questions about specific recruits.

If you can't make it for the online chat session, we will post the full transcript of the questions and answers. Thanks.

I wont be able to listen to the show live tomorrow. Can you ask him if he is going to have a radio talk show. If he is how long will it be?

I now have about 30 questions pre-submitted for the chat session with Coach Wardle. Most are great questions, and fans will want to know the answers. I probably won't be able to get all of these questions asked, in addition to ones asked by those joining the live chat.

So I apologize in advance if some fans' questions don't get asked.

Here are some of the best questions we'll try to get answers for-

How would you describe your style of offense?

Do you adjust your offensive philosophy based on the talents of your players?

How would you describe your defensive philosophy?

Approximately what overall percentage of the time do you play zone defense vs. man-to-man?

How many players do you usually try to use in your playing rotation each game?

We??™ve heard you have been making frequent contact with local coaches. Do you consider it a priority to recruit local players?

You have done a great job recruiting a lot of new players to fill the depleted roster in a very short time. Will you continue to recruit overseas players, or was that a short-term strategy?

Which assistant coach is considered the ???big man??? coach, the ???guard coach???, and who is considered your ???recruiting coordinator????

With Mike Bargen, a former junior college coach, on the staff, do you plan to recruit junior college players very much, or only as a back-up plan?

What are the specific strengths that each of your assistant coaches bring to the team?

Mike Shaw is wearing a boot on his left foot, what is his injury?

What are the differences you see now in the MVC versus the Horizon League?

Would you like to and is there any chance of trying to schedule games against Green Bay or Marquette?

Any plans to redshirt any of your freshmen recruits?

Will BU try to ???shed??? scholarship players who don't prove capable of top MVC play after their sophomore eligibility year?

Wichita State will probably still be the team to beat in the MVC next season, but which other teams do you see challenging for the top 4 or 5 spots?

How is it working with Athletic Director Chris Reynolds? Did you know him before you became interested in the Bradley job?

Will Coach Wardle have a radio show? When will it start? How long will the show be, and will he take calls?

Which coaches do you draw basketball knowledge and inspiration from? Who were your most important mentors?

What are your goals for the team this year? In 2 years? In 4?

What are your thoughts about players being on social media sites, and sometimes posting statements and photos that could be seen in a negative or embarrassing light? Do you have any specific policies or rules?

Do you think AAU basketball is more of a good influence or a bad influence on players?

(This one might be better to ask Bobby Parker)...
Will Bradley be doing any kind of celebration for the 30-year anniversary of their 1986 undefeated MVC Championship NCAA team, the 20th anniversary of the 1996 MVC Championship NCAA team, and 10th anniversary of the 2006 NCAA Sweet 16 team?

Will the new coach and AD try any new things to get students involved?

I thought it was already divulged that Shaw has turf toe.

I think that was mentioned in a Dave Reynolds column. So maybe I will skip that question.
I am at the BU basketball office, and we'll start the chat in a few minutes.

Quick summary of a few answers & hilites that were given by Coach Wardle:

Some summer events are in the planning stage - a few Bradley players will be involved in the West Peoria 4th of July parade

Several in-season game promotions will involve celebrating those great Bradley teams from 1986, 1996, and 2006 that won Championships & went to the Sweet 16

                    Coach Wardle describes his offense:
"We're going to get out and attack in the first 10 seconds of the shot clock, then flow into a continuity. Then out of deadballs and timeouts, we're going to run quick hitters to get a specific player the ball to score. We'll then flow back into continuity. Plays don't make plays, players do. We need to teach our players how to play the right way and not micromanage the offense.

I like ball movement and ball reversals will be a big emphasis. As our players develop, and hopefully we'll have a player who rises to elite status, I'm smart enough to get that person the ball a lot. "

                    He describes his defense:
"We're 80 percent aggressive man-to-man and about 20 percent, we'll work in some zone from time to time. We keep it very simple from terminology for the guys, but pretty much 80-20 man-to-man and zone."

                    Regarding his staff:
"Staff attributes - Jimmie Foster (toughness, relationships and has a proven track record developing bigs and will focus on working with the wings, really everyone). Drew Adams (high energy, works with the guards). Mike Bargen (will work with the bigs a lot)."

"..getting quality opponents into Carver Arena is our No. 1 priority"

                    Regarding possible redshirts:
"- no decision will be made until after the exhibition games... "

                    Re: Mike Shaw's injury:
"Shaw - He's day-to-day, but he is continuing to work out"

someone may post a full transcript later...but thanks to Da Coach, Bobby Parker, and Coach Wardle - this was great to have you for a chat!
