Here is an interesting trivia question...the answers are from a CBSSports article today on the Iowa State hire

      First - did you know
...Steve Prohm was very successful at Murray State but...he was hired there in 2011 having had ABSOLUTELY ZERO HEAD COACHING EXPERIENCE AT ANY LEVEL!!

      so here's my TRIVIA QUESTIONS...

1- Can you name a MAJOR CONFERENCE head coach since 2000 (Big10, Big12, Pac12, SEC, ACC, BE, American), who was hired having zero head coaching experience?

2- Can you name one who had ZERO coaching experience of any kind???

      Answers...mouse over to view....

      1- quite a few!
Pitt's Jamie Dixon, Miami's Frank Haith, Marquette's Steve Wojciechowski, Northwestern's Chris Collins, Rutgers' Fred Hill, Indiana's Mike Davis, Stanford's Johnny Dawkins, Arizona's Russ Pennell, Utah's Jim Boylen, Oregon State's Jay John, Oklahoma State's Sean Sutton, Texas Tech's Pat Knight, Kansas State's Frank Martin, Mississippi State's Rick Ray, Memphis' Josh Pastnaer, UConn's Kevin Ollie, Cincy's Andy Kennedy.

2- Iowa State's Fred Hoiberg, St. John's Chris Mullin

Hoiberg and Mullins are not the only ones hired with no coaching experience. Clyde Drexler (Houston) was hired despite having no previous coaching experience of any kind, and I am sure there have been others. Jim Les had very limited coaching experience with the WNBA team in Sacramento, but no prior coaching experience otherwise.

there's a bunch more if you count mid-majors and if you count NBA, then Steve Kerr counts..

Both Hoiberg & Mullin worked on the staffs of NBA teams (Mullin with Golden State, Hoiberg with Timberwolves) but neither had an official coaching position...they were termed "front office".
