  • UAB caves in to pressure and reinstates football

UAB will reinstate football in 2016. The had dropped their football program, but received negative publicity, loss of donations and a promise for increased financial support if they reversed the decision, and they received pressure from many directions to re-instate it. They would have been forced out of their conference. They will not field a football team for 2015, but will reinstate the program for 2016- thus meaning they will essentially start from scratch-

I never had any doubt that UAB would bring back football. There is way too much interest in it for it to be dropped. Although there were some financial issues, the decision to drop football was determined by one person, President Watts. He not only dropped football but also bowling and rifling. He is a president that has about as much support as the president at Bradley, that just resigned. All three sports are being reinstated at UAB. I believe President Watts is on borrowed time and may be trying to save his job. Football is king in the south and it always will be.
