  • Chicago Bulls fire Head Coach Tom Thibodeau

Tom Thibodeau fired with 2 years left on his contract. He had success with the Bulls (255-139 [.647] regular-season record), but he was not well liked by players, and he refused to work with the Bulls management.

The official statement by the Bulls hints at the discord between management and Thibodeau-

???The Chicago Bulls have a history of achieving great success on and off the court,??™??™ team chairman Jerry Reinsdorf said in a statement. ???These accomplishments have been possible because of an organizational culture where input from all parts of the organization has been welcomed and valued, there has been a willingness to participate in a free flow of information, and there have been clear and consistent goals. While the head of each department of the organization must be free to make final decisions regarding his department, there must be free and open interdepartmental discussion and consideration of everyone??™s ideas and opinions.

???These internal discussions must not be considered an invasion of turf, and must remain private. Teams that consistently perform at the highest levels are able to come together and be unified across the organization-staff, players, coaches, management and ownership. When everyone is on the same page, trust develops and teams can grow and succeed together. Unfortunately, there has been a departure from this culture. To ensure that the Chicago Bulls can continue to grow and succeed, we have decided that a change in the head coaching position is required. Days like today are difficult, but necessary for us to achieve our goals and fulfill our commitments to our fans. I appreciate the contributions that Tom Thibodeau made to the Bulls organization. I have always respected his love of the game and wish him well in the future.??™??™

Iowa State head coach Fred Hoiberg remains the leading candidate to be hired to replace Thibodeau.

this likely narrows Max's choices to just Indiana vs. Nebraska...
both have the prospect of playing time available yet both will likely be lower half teams in the Big Ten next year...

    - Hope Max sees what he's doing and is prepared to be a little disappointed again in his playing time...
    One quote about Indiana was...
"Bielfeldt was a bench player for the Wolverines, and that’s the role he’ll likely fill in Bloomington.
.. Indiana needs a solid, experienced big to backup incoming star center Thomas Bryant."

The page you're looking for may have been changed, moved or mysteriously gone missing

...Indiana has TWO scholarships to fill & are also still looking at other big men -
Nebraska only has one scholarship left but they are planning to host a 7-footer transfer this weekend so they appear to not be putting their hopes on Max

Iowa State already hiring a search firm... so i think we know what's coming - odd that Max doesn't see it coming yet..

        Nice Shooting Elmer Fudd

From everything I have read/heard, Thibodeau stuck to his guns vs Bulls Mgmt with how he wanted to run the team.

Unfortunately, all he ended up doing was shooting his *ick off.

Hoiburg has heart health issues - why not stay at Iowa State and retire in a couple years healthy, wealthy, and an Iowa State icon.. Worked out pretty well for Coach K and other stay at home college coaches.

The grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence... Which does he want? No more recruiting Prima Donna HS kids and their entourages? Or not having to deal with multi millionaire Prima Donna teens, their entourages and agents?

I am sure it's the millions of dollars more the Bulls are offering him, plus no more recruiting, and a 4 month vacation between seasons.

No question about it. Coaching in college basketball is a year round job. College coaches must recruit year round and deal with sensitive egos from players, families, high school coaches, AAU coaches and big money donors. Pro coaches only deal with egos from players. College coaches spend countless hours developing the physical strength of players and fundamentals. NBA coaches do not spend much time on fundamentals, as professional players are already fundamentally developed or they wouldn't be there. College coaches must be kept abreast of constantly changing NCAA guidelines and budgets. NBA coaches don't deal with any of that. College coaches and teams travel by bus and for the most part commercial airplanes. NBA coaches and teams travel by charter planes.

In my opinion, the college game is a much better game to watch than the NBA. From a coaching standpoint, the college coach is paid less money and does a lot more work. Coaches like Izzo and Coach K, make tons of dollars coaching college basketball. If they had the desire, they would make a lot more money coaching in the NBA and doing less work.

We don't agree often, Vent, but when we do, it's spot on. Couldn't agree more!

I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

If Rose and Noah would have quit worrying about having their hands up and what tee-shirts they were wearing they might not have had their hands on their throats choking.
