I think if he does not go there it will be another negative to Groce. He is getting a reputation he cant recruit Illinois. This would add more fuel to the fire
Not being able to recruit Illinois hasn't been Groce's problem. Not landing the most elite players from the state has been the issue. In his 2015 class he has a couple of excellent Illinois kids, one them (D.J. Williams), is a top 5 player in Illinois.
In fairness to Groce, put him in any other conference and he's probably one of the best coaches there. The Big 10 is stacked with talented players and coaches, and in my humble opinion is the best basketball conference in the nation (after the MVC).
Larry Bird
I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.
I wish him nothing but success....he will sit out this coming year and be eligible in 2016-17
he told the Dayton Daily News... "He said he doesn’t know yet if he will enroll at UD for the second summer session or in the fall."
...so what is he going to do all summer?

nowadays - with the new rules that allow coaches to contact & work with the kids over the summer - I know every coach wants the kids there as early in the summer as possible...
Maybe since he's not going to be playing this season it isn't as urgent but he can still start conditioning and learning the system - if the fall comes and he tries to go against fully conditioned teammates in practice - it'll show.
..plus, he can get a couple course credits done & out of the way so he won't have to carry a big load later..
..one of our recent players once told me that the ability to be on campus every summer and take a few less classes made his senior season far easier and allowed him to graduate on time with really good grades.
....after delaying his decision more than 2 months (actually longer, more like 3 to 4 months since surely he knew back in March & earlier that Ford & Coleman were goners) ...
..he says the decision came down to Illinois vs. Dayton but he didn't get a chance to really see what the campus & team at Illinois was like...
(why not ? - 2-3 months isn't enough time to check it out a few times?)
"I kind of knew more about their (Dayton's) family-oriented team. I think Illinois has one, I heard that they had a good one, but I really didn't get a chance to visit like I did at Dayton."
He was also quick to note his mother and him developed a strong connection with Coach Ostrom and Coach Miller (at Dayton)..."
(apparently signalling that "his mother and him" must not have felt that close to the Illini coaches.)
