One of my Illini friends tells me that Josh Cunningham is in Champaign-Urbana t oday & tomorrowworking out with the Illini players and meeting with coaches..

Don't understand why he would want to play down by going to Illinois.

24-30 in the Big 10 last 3 years is not exactly a huge step up. Coaching backgrounds and personalities of Groce and Wardle similar as well.

No matter how down Illinois is, Josh is out of his league.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

now, after the Illini have pursued a dozen different mid-major kids recently (Sammy, Ekey, Colbert, Thorne, Hill, etc...)

now the Illini folks suddenly see Josh Cunningham as the KEY to their success next season!!!
The page you're looking for may have been changed, moved or mysteriously gone missing

but this writer did not check his facts very well.

                "Josh Cunningham Transfer Is Key

Forward Josh Cunningham visited the Illinois campus yesterday and this one could be big.
...reminds me a little of a Brian Randle...

could Cunningham be a piece that could build our team for the future?

Cunningham is a big, athletic, player that will be good with any team he transfers to.

Cunningham is only one year removed from Morgan Park High School where he played with highly touted, uncommitted, recruit Marcus LoVett.

If Illinois wants LoVett I am going to assume that getting Cunningham would be a huge step. If we can get one of his former high school teammates...

.. with these recruits and transfer Illinois basketball will still be good in 2015."

Marcus Lovett has been at Morgan Park only since last fall and never played there at the same time as Cunningham and they were NEVER teammates.

Why ruin a good story with facts? :-)

What does it say about a coach, a program, or a school that their recruiting strategy is to focus on mid major transfers who have had limited success...

I wish Josh well, and would have enjoyed watching him for the next three years.

But my guess is he hasn't shown the programs recruiting him game film from the home loss against Augustana College -- our first look at our Top 100 recruit -- where he was held scoreless by a Div 3 school. That really opened my eyes to a surprising lack of offensive skills. He went on to have some really nice rebounding games, but missed a ton of 3s and never really showed 1-on-1 skills.

                    Good luck to him.

Groce is probably gone after this year if his team does not perform. By time Josh sits out a year Groce and all his assistance will be history. And the saga will continue.

                            New Illini Rivals article

the writer disses on all the mid-major transfers Illinois has pursued the last few years but then says he'd like to see Cunningham as an Illini...

"While I would normally hesitate for Illinois to again invest in multi-year transfers after Groce's first dive into that pool didn't pay enough dividends
-- no NCAA Tournament appearances the last two seasons while investing four scholarships invested into Rayvonte Rice, Aaron Cosby, Ahmad Starks and Darius Paul -- Cunningham provides a unique opportunity.

... long, tenacious athlete and proven rebounder... blue-collar fours who can rebound and finish around the rim.."

                            Then he says...
"People often forget that he was a top 100 player on Rivals (#88 ).....He can shoot it from distance...
He is the type of player that should really help out with rebounding and on the defensive end."

Often forget?? LOL - How can we forget - I hear that fact mentioned multiple times in every article and every message board post - probably heard about his pre-college ranking 1000 times! And "can shoot it from distance"??
Sure - he can shoot it but he can't make it....who are they fooling?

Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports that Josh Cunningham is considering 4 schools-
Illinois, Dayton, Mississippi State, and Colorado State.
