  • Two more open scholarships - who?

Do we keep one for Max just in case?
Do we fill the remaining two open scholarships with even more inexperienced incoming freshmen?
Do we go for a couple juco kids to fill spots and gain a little depth & experience?
Some have suggested we hold one or both ("bank them") so we will have more to "spend" on what looks like a not-so-deep deep 2016 class.

I would like to see us get Max plus get at least one or two of the very best available juco players/shooters so we have some ability to score this coming season.
I don't know about you but I do not want to see nites where we score 38 or 39 and have trouble breaking the 50-barrier.

    Two More Open scholarships...

I would hope that BW has had a recent serious talk with Max to find out if he is going to get off the pot or continue playing games. I might even give him a date certain by which he has to commit or the schollie is withdrawn. I would use one schollie for another big or Scottie J. and bank the other for next fall.

If BU staff can't find and sign anyone (HS or JC) way better than who BU already has/will have, don't use scholarships this year.

Hey - I have a good feel for these last two scholarships.....

-Here's one of the Dutch connections....
One of Brian Wardle's past players, Rahmon Fletcher, was also a past player of the Dutch coach who coached Luuk van Bree
(not the Canarias coach, Rob Orellana, who Brian Wardle also seems to have a connection to).

This guy just had TWO of his other top players commit to US schools!!

One kid that the Dutch coach used to have just verballed to Bo Ryan & Wisconsin!!

and another is going to play in US

He still has several more talented kids at different age levels

Here's a name provided by David Williams - assistant at Manual...
          Jorge Rosa...

most will find that name a bit obscure, but he's a freshman at FAMU (Florida A&M University) who was named the Mid-Major Freshman of the YEAR!!!

In his only season at FAMU, the 6-4 SG averaged 11.3 ppg and was just developing into a very good 3-pt shooter - hitting 15-29 (52%) over the final five games of the season..

Rosa has now left FAMU and is transferring to Indian Hills junior college in Ottumwa, IA - only 2.5 to 3 hours away - so I hope coach keeps an eye on him for 2016...
..one more thing - he is a straight A student! Reminds me of Drake's Josh Young, came from a very small high school so was unheralded, great kid & great student - definite solid mid-major talent who can score.

I like the quality of the kids we have landed...
..and I have heard from a "well placed" source that one of the primary requisites of AD Chris Reynolds is that any kid brought in here has to have and pass a background check - has to be a GOOD student and be clean with no past issues and behavior problems, no track record of changing schools every year...
Apparently it is well known that those such standards were relaxed substantially with the past few recruiting classes as a help to the head coach to get someone with talent but it obviously backfired royally...

So, just to be clear, a guy who shot 34% from the field and 32% from three is "developing into a very good 3-pt shooter"? At least he's got a lot of room to improve...

Well - I agree - but even if he did no better than 32% then he'd still have been one of our best 3-pt shooters since Jeremy Crouch & Andrew Warren -

but the point I made was that as the season wore on he improved substantially (unlike a lot of the players we've seen here the past few years)..even tho he was basically the only scoring option his poor-shooting team had and he always drew the opponents' best wing defender..

If we divide the season in thirds....
..in the first 1/3 of the season he shot 14-50 (28%)
..in the second 1/3 of the season he shot 19-68 (28%)
..then in the final 1/3 of the season he shot 22-49 (45%)
..I think he definitely showed enough improvement & promise that I would not rule the kid out...
Remember - Omari Grier came in here with no more impressive stats than this kid and was touted as a lights out shooter, a difference maker, and a go-to guy!
