Tony Barone to be inducted into Creighton University Athletic Hall of Fame tonight

But the Induction Ceremony for Tony and others is tonight, Thursday, 4/30.

Congratulations to Tony. We know he's been ill, but I hope he will be able to be at the ceremony.

I had a chance to chat with Tony & greet him and tell him the BU fan base still honors him as one of our greats...
when he was here for the game we played in 2013 against Green Bay at the Ren-Col in the CIT

at that time he was just recently retired from the Grizzlies organization (Asst. Coach, Dir. of Personnel, scout, etc. He was 66 years old, healthy and expressed quite unashamedly that he was STILL interested in coaching at the college level.
Drake had just hired Ray Giacoletti, and Tony had wanted to be considered but felt snubbed...
but....he was also actually quite hurt that Bradley completely ignored him and his request to be considered back in 2011....

btw - when Tony was hired as Director of Player Personnel in Jan. 2001, he & Dick Versace scouted some European guys and spotted a big guy playing for Barcelona and worked some trades to get the guy the following June in the 2001 NBA Draft...
Pau Gasol...

Dick Versace first saw him in Greece. They were there scouting Anthony Parker,
an American player who was playing in Europe at the time.
(He's the lesser-known brother of one Candace Parker, WNBA star.)
Parker played poorly and Gasol barely at all, but what the two men saw in warmups
from Gasol was enough to convince them they need to invest time scouting him.
Grizzlies ownership and upper management were skeptical, but they placed enough trust
in the scouts to let them pursue Gasol further. The rest is history."
