Iowa State just spent one of their remaining scholarships...but it likely doesn't affect their pursuit of Max

".. Iowa State men??™s basketball program has received a commitment from...
Nick Noskowiak of Sun Prairie, Wis. ...a Class of 2015 point guard ..

Noskowiak is the first commitment from an American high school player for ISU since Nov. 2012
The Cyclones have two remaining scholarships available to fill for this upcoming season."

But even this commitment is not a typical recruiting commitment by any means. The story of Nick Noskowiak is one of the more bizarre recruiting stories in recent years.
Noskowiak, a 4-star guard, was verbally committed to Marquette way back in May, 2013 when Buzz Williams was their coach. After Williams left, Noskowiak decided to re-open his recruitment. He played the summer 2014 on the AAU circuit and got lots of offers, but in the end he re-committed back to Marquette and signed a Letter of Intent last fall with new coach Steve Wojciechowski.

But then something happened during his senior season in high school at Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. He missed 11 games during the middle of his senior season. He also missed a stretch of time at school and he tweeted that he was taking time off to be treated for "depression". There were reports from his father that he was living with an uncle in DePere, Wisconsin, which was later denied by Noskowiak.

His father also claimed to the Wisconsin State Journal that his son "is seeking treatment for depression at an undisclosed location and has no plans to play basketball in the immediate future."

But then, a couple days later, the story changed and Noskowiak himself tweeted again, saying, "I wasn't ever depressed or never sought treatment for depression... I had to get out of an abusive household and father."

Just as things were getting bizarre, Noskowiak unexpectedly returned to his high school team Feb. 12, and the next day Marquette coach Steve Wojciechowski released him from his commitment.

But he can apparently still play ball well, and there were other schools who were willing to take on this strange situation, and his father. He got several new offers, but Iowa State seems like the perfect place for this two-time de-commit.

The high school senior hasn't played a lick of high school basketball since December 19th, but is eligible to return to the court tonight against Janesville Craig.

Max is a guy who spent his college basketball career at a great big ten school mostly sitting on the pines and then they wouldn't even give him the benefit of a schollie for his last year. Now he appears to be trying to prove something with this long list of colleges who want him. IMO Bradley should forget Max...He isn't our guy.

Sure Max didn't invent the list of schools. As soon as it was announced he was probably leaving Michigan many Bradley fans started talking of him coming here. How was he insincere in his statements concerning Bradley? I've never heard or read where Max said he was coming to Bradley. But I've read and heard where so many experts had him coming here.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

Peoria Notre Dame grad and Michigan junior Max Bielfeldt considering Bradley for final year

Michigan fourth-year junior Max Bielfeldt of Peoria said Thursday he's talked with new Bradley coach Brian Wardle and is considering playing at BU during his final year of eligibility in 2015-16.

"I have spoken to Coach Wardle and there is an interest to potentially come," he said. "I'm currently just weighing my other options."
When asked what he liked about Wardle and the BU program, Bielfeldt responded: "I like how he's trying to build a high-character team similar to how Michigan recruits. It would definitely be fun to play in my home city in front of so many familiar faces and fans at a program that I grew up watching."
I had not seen this article in the Journal Star. After just reading it, I got out of the article that Max was "just weighing my other options." At this point, in my opinion, he was looking at all of his options. I still think that a lot of people read more into this article than was actually there. Of course it would be fun to play in front of your home town. It would also be fun to play in a NCAA tournament. It does say he has spoken to Coach Wardle but really doesn't say who contacted who. I just think the article was a little vague.

I still don't see anything in the article, that leads me to believe he was leading anybody on about coming to Bradley.

It's kind of like in high school when a girl tells her boyfriend, "I like you but I just want to date around a little bit". They might get back together but more often than not, she's just trying to be nice to him.

I doubt this changes anything with Max and Michigan, but another scholarship just opened up on the Michigan team.

I suspect this extra scholarship is intended for another recruit and not for Max.

An update, with no real change in the situation. The Michigan basketball beat writer tweeted again this morning that Max has a list of 6 schools currently, though that could still change. The good news is Bradley is still one of them.

As for Max Bielfeldt, he visited Iowa St and is considering Boston College, K-State, Bradley, Stanford and DePaul.
Bielfeldt told MLive his list of schools under consideration includes Boston College, Kansas State, Iowa State, Bradley, Stanford and DePaul.

                Latest update-
Dave Reynolds tweeted this late Monday night, which fits with what I last heard and posted above Saturday night, that Max is looking strongest right now at Iowa State or Boston College.-

Good source tells me Max Bielfeldt is looking for a high major, strong academic school.

If he is actually looking for academics and has offers from BC and Stanford, he wouldn't really be considering Iowa State. Decent school, but it can't be mentioned in the same breath and Stanford, and really, it doesn't even compare to BC.

Was really hoping he would come home and play but can't blame him for choosing another quality school with great education and basketball... Especially since we aren't in any position to contend for anything.

A classy move by Max Bielfeldt-
This is typically more the stuff of retweets, rather than blog posts, but in light of all the recent events surrounding IU basketball, it seemed worth sharing here.

highly touted Nick Noskowiak - who was recruited by the big boys- committed to Marquette, then was released and went to Iowa State - then was dismissed from there (off-court issues) -
then after committing to a Florida juco - is now headed to Dodge City CC (same school Tyshon Pickett went to).
This is his 4th college and he's yet to play a game.

he is another player who was recruited by Brian Wardle back in 2012-13 when at Green Bay - and held a GREEN BAY offer....
However- it seems unlikely Bradley would be interested.
