  • Nate Wells transferring to Ball State University

As we've known for a couple weeks, and as many members learned through some Private Messages, Nate was leaning toward transferring to Ball State, and today he officially committed to Ball State head coach James Whitford to play for the BSU Cardinals of the MAC next season .

Nate's primary intent was to find a school where he could pursue his interest and work toward a Master's degree in mass communications and public relations, which Bradley does not offer. He discussed it with Coach Ford, and then with Coach Wardle. Nate's dad told me that Nate would have loved to play for Coach Wardle, but the education was the foremost concern for Nate and his family. Nate met with the Ball State coaches a couple weeks ago, and eventually felt it was the best place for him. He also had interest from a few other schools, including South Dakota, Eastern Michigan, NIU, Fairfield, and Tennessee Tech.

Ball State lacked height last season, so Nate should be a valuable player for them.

Here is their record and stats from this past season-

And they finished at the bottom of the MAC last season, but their top players were all freshmen and sophomores, so they will be better next season.-

Ball State's colors are red and white (actually cardinal red and white), so Nate should be used to those school colors!

Good luck to the Natester! He'll be missed by me and many other BU fans that saw him give nothing but 110% every chance he got!

Hope you do well at Ball St., big man. Would have loved to have seen another year of you at BU!

I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

Nate good luck and good choice but remember Once a Brave always a Brave. You certainly were an inspiration to many as you could tell when you entered a game.

Nate knows this! I sent a congratulatory PM to his dad (who has been a member on this board for the past 4 years), and he sent me back a PM saying-
Thanks! Nate is excited and will always be a Brave.

I follow BSU sports. Nate should be a good fit there and should get more playing time than he did at BU. I'm looking forward to watching him.
My first BU hoops game was on 12/30/1963. My dad took me to watch the Braves defeat Arizona 67-59. He helped me get Coach Orsborn's autograph before the game.

Nate Wells & Ball State are practicing for their upcoming summer exhibition games in the Bahamas

here's one report from their practice...

"It's obvious with a listed height at 7-1, but Bradley graduate transfer Nate
Wells stands out on a team that didn't play anyone taller than 6-7 last season.
Wells showed a fluid jumper, especially in the mid-range, and seemed decently
mobile setting picks and rolling inside."

teams are only allowed to go overseas ONCE ever 4 years so it is VERY rare that any player would ever get to take such a summer foreign tour more than once.

BUT - this is Nate Wells' THIRD time!!!! Looks like he kinda played his cards right.

He went to Brazil in 2012 with a touring group from AIA

Then he went to the Bahamas in 2013 with the Bradley team

Then he got to go to the Bahamas AGAIN last month in 2015 with his new team Ball State

may undergo some tweaks by NCAA to assure that the players using it are really transferring for academic and not athletic reasons...

                      ahem....sure....

One-and-dones in college athletics might undergo a change soon. Not the one-and-dones who try college basketball for a season before bolting to the NBA. The one-and-dones who graduate and leave their institution for one year to compete immediately elsewhere. The rule allowing student-athletes with undergraduate degrees to transfer with immediately eligibility might be tweaked when […]
