  • Post season ban ..lack of academic progress?

It sounds like with the previous transfers of GF's recruits the last couple of years and the release of the number of players by BW....BU will not make sufficient academic progress to permit post season play. While post season play alone is unlikely the next few years.....this issue will be a recruting negative as other coaches remind recruits of BU's ban. Makes BW's job more challenging.

So if you had any question about the type of undisciplined program GF was running....it sounds like BW called a team meeting before his press conference and the new head coach was greeted with three players being late to their first team meeting.

For the record- as Bobby Parker has said, if those transferring do land at another D1 school and progress toward their diploma, then they will not have a negative effect on Bradley's APR.

In my opinion that is a big "if" that Bobby Parker said. Of the six players transferring from this year's roster, there are three of them, I would not bet my house on to graduate.

I'm not sure all schools provide the academic help that Bradley does to their student athletes.

Does anyone know how many former players during the past 4 years, have transferred to another D-1 school and are on course to graduate?

At what part does progress towards a diploma fall on the new school? Does it ever become 'their' responsibility?

It is hard to find the exact wording of the NCAA rule, but here is what was stated in Dave Reynolds article last Wednesday-

Because the departing players are mostly in good shape academically and on target to graduate, the team??™s Academic Progress Rate (APR) should not be adversely affected, said Bobby Parker, Bradley??™s associate athletic director for communications.
???As long as they maintain at least a 2.6 transfer GPA (grade-point average) this semester and transfer immediately to a four-year school, there??™s no APR effect at all,??? Parker said, noting all of the players carry a GPA at least that high.

I take that to mean those transferring to a four-year school becomes the responsibility of the new school. I hope everyone of the transfers go that route. There are one or two that I wonder about.

If they transfer down to Division II, it appears it may affect our rating adversely. The players, that I can remember, that transferred from Bradley during the past four years are:
              Donovine Stewart
              Devon Hodges
              Stefan Zecevic
              Jalen Crawford
              Shayok Shayok
              Jordan Swopshire
              Tramique Sutherland
              Josh Cunningham
              Jermaine Morgan
              Kendahl Amerson
              Xzavier Taylor

I may have missed some. I didn't list Nate Wells since he will graduate and go on to get his Masters someplace. Chris Blake ran out of eligibility after one year as a junior college transfer. I don't know if he graduated or went to another D-1 school.

Chris Blake did not move to another school. I am not sure where he is now, but he was at a Bradley game or two. He might have stayed at Bradley to complete his degree.
The only other name that left and transferred was Jimmy Gavin, but he was not a scholarship player.

Vent, I believe it only says a four-year school. Maybe, I am just hopeful of little to no impact. Are you finding a different reference?
