  • The unresolved case of Squeaky Melchiorre

This topic comes up every once in a while - should Gene Squeaky Melchoirre be restored/forgiven...

Strangely he HAS been back and has been acknowledged in front of the home crowd - yet his jersey has never been retired...
Some say it's more political than anything else as some old-time members of that team are still resistant to honoring Squeaky or doing anything with his jersey.

Well - when the issue came up in 2009 - Dr. Glasser slammed the door shut and basically said there would be NO honors for Squeaky as long as she was President.

well - then I guess that means we can start up the discussion again...

I think it is time to honor the guy and forgive the poor judgement from over 60 years ago...
after all Dr. Glasser has approved miniscule and minimal penalties and offered restoration & forgiveness for kids with drug arrests, battery arrests, and all kinds of other legal issues & arrests - and now she is gonna be gone....
-is it not time for Squeaky?

As noted, Pres. Glasser ruled on this back in July of 2009. It upset a lot of people, especially a lot of the older Bradley fans who remember seeing Squeaky play, and in some cases, former Bradley players who played with him.-

It may be possible for this issue to be brought back under the next Bradley President, but unfortunately, many of the strongest supporters of Squeaky having his uniform retired are no longer with us or are getting too old to fight the fight any more.

Personally, I would like to see this issue reconsidered by the next President, and finally honor one of the greatest players in Bradley's history appropriately.

Squeaky made a mistake a long, long time ago. He has lead his life as an outstanding citizen and human being in his community. He has championed the cause of Bradley University since his days on campus. There may be one or two people that are still bitter about Squeaky. Those people are far out numbered by the people that have already forgiven him. It is time to retire his jersey, while the man is still alive.
