  • Report: multiple Bradley players transferring

A sports department tweet from WEEK - is saying that many current Bradley players are leaving and will transfer
..given the source & it somewhat fits with what we have been expecting to hear, thus I do not believe it is an April Fool's tweet..
but I sure hope we keep at least a few guys who can play basketball otherwise we're in for a pretty bad season this fall.

Here is the report on Twitter-

    Aaron Ferguson @Sports_Aaron ?· 1h 1 hour ago
Sources: Mike Shaw, Warren Jones, Ka'Darryl Bell, Omari Grier and Jackson Kane are the only players expected to return to Bradley.

With that being said, Josh Cunningham is expected to transfer from Bradley.

Bradley coach Brian Wardle has been meeting one-on-one with his team. He is expected to release these players from their scholarships.

As of now, Kendahl Amerson, Tramique Sutherland, Xzavier Taylor and Nate Wells have all been granted their release.

As I noted on the other thread, there is no mention of Donte Thomas or Jermaine Morgan. I hope Donte is not leaving.
But if the only returning players are Mike Shaw, Warren Jones, Ka'Darryl Bell, Omari Grier and Jackson Kane (all seniors), Bradley will be in big trouble next season.
Coach Wardle has a lot of recruiting work to do.

Hopefully there is some wiggle room in the "is expected to" when it comes to Josh.

I would have liked to have seen Amerson play. I remember he showed great athleticism in winning the dunk contest at the riverfront introduction last year and he supposedly can shoot as well.

If this is true, message to all potential recruits: You want playing time? Come to Bradley!

Wells was a senior last season - no? Did you mean someone else?

Here is another twitter report about this-
The Bradley Scout (student newspaper at Bradley) tweeted these 2 tweets moments ago-

            Bradley Scout Sports @ScoutSportsDesk
We reached out to the Bradley Athletics department regarding the rumored transfers/a potential timetable for more info. (1/2)

            Bradley Scout Sports @ScoutSportsDesk
(2/2) Coach Wardle is meeting w/ players today then heading to Indy. Also said not to expect anything, if there is anything, until next week

So apparently the coach is not willing to comment on this yet, and will be in Indianapolis until after the Final Four.

              Wells was redshirted.

Yes, Nate Wells redshirted his first year, so although he is on course to graduate this spring, he still has one year of eligibility left.

                  Report: multiple Bradley players transfering

t....What is going on? If this is true, is it a reaction to Wardles meeting with the players and what he said to them? If players transfer, do they have to sit for a year before they can play? If this is true, what might Chris R. be doing to prevent this from happening?

Wardle is a strict disciplinarian. Geno was not, and that's all I'll say about it. When coaching changes go that way (from a loose discipline coach to a strict one), usually a lot of players have trouble adjusting and accepting the different style of coaching. Players leaving right away are common, and often with strict disciplinarian coaches, you'll see transfers the 2nd year, too, after the players play a year for the new coach. I think it's inevitable, and in the long run will be good for Bradley, but will hurt in the short-term. But it is what we need to do.

In the end, this is just more of the massive fallout from what we predicted would be years of fallout when the administration made poor decisions back in 2011. Unfortunately, we were right.

Given GF's distaste the last two seasons for his players (effort? dedication? selfishness?) nor necessarily a bad thing to clean house. Get rid of anyone who doesn't want to learn, hustle, play hard, or play as a team. If JC thinks he is bigger than BU, don't let the door hit him in the butt on the way out. Don't need a cancer on the team. How would anyone not want to play for a coach who has had success and the ONLY way for BU is up?

JL lost several really top players/BU recruits when he took over and managed to get things going in the right direction by year 3-4.

After last year what's one or two more? As long as they show some positive efforts so the fan base believes they are moving in right direction.

                        Next year will be better

coach: You were right! I predict BU will be better than 9 wins next year regardless of who leaves. BW will get some players that he recruited to Green Bay and coach the rest of the boys up. Go Braves!

Dan Muller has also come in and made pretty sweeping changes...
He added two new players in Year 1 (but he had a core group of good players & All Conf guys - Carmichael, Tyler Brown, Ekey, Wilkins, Threloft, Zeisloft)

But he then added TEN new players in Year 2 (not all were immed eligible)
and then five more new ones plus the new availability of Hawkins, MacIntosh in Year 3
Now in Year four he's gonna add 3 or 4 more new ones...

So it's not necessarily bad to clean house if you can get some talent in there...

Molinari also jettisoned & moved players pretty fast - bringing in six new guys right away in Year 1 then five more in Year 2..
with his newcomers (Kleine, Suchy, Winslow, Jackson, Billy Wright, Pollard, Funches, then AP & Bayo) being a great group for the next few years

btw - with these rumors then the silence coming from official sources at Bradley - where are our ever-vigilant press-dogs
barking about the lack of transparency up on the Hilltop??

I just talked to someone who got the official word from Bobby Parker at Bradley-
At this time Bradley has no comment, and there will be no comment coming until next week on this. They apparently seemed annoyed that this info is out there.
