UW-Green Bay head coaching search

Since the coaching search at UW-Green Bay has an affect on whether members of Brian Wardle's coaching staff come to work at Bradley, I though it deserved its own separate thread.

ESPN's Jeff Goodman is reporting that Wisconsin-Green Bay is considering Michigan State assistant Dane Fife and former SIU coach Chris Lowery as replacements for Brian Wardle-

And CBSSports.com is reporting that Fordham has hired Eastern Kentucky's head coach jeff Neubauer

That would be Ok w/ me so that way we would get Brian Barone as an asst coach here.

It usually doesn't help much, especially for an assistant coach. I suspect the AD will make her own decision independent of this. That leaves Barone to decide if he waits it out or joins Wardle at Bradley.

.... Kansas State assistant coach Chris Lowery ...

the very fact that Chris Lowery's name is getting mentioned as a candidate that is going to be interviewed at Green Bay....
http://wncy.com/news/articles/2015/mar/31/phoenix-candidates-emerge-for-gillespie/

is somewhat surprising...
Lowery was forced out at SIU just 3 years ago - and is blamed for sending the SIU program into oblivion and they've never recovered.
And yet - here we are just 3 years later and considered a candidate to return as a respectable midmajor-level head coach?
I am not sure why Green Bay would consider Lowery...

This article from the Green Bay Press Gazette also mentions just those 2 as candidates-

T.J. Otzelberger is an assistant coach at the University of Washington for the past 2 seasons

T.J. Otzelberger is rejoining the Iowa State coaching staff as an assistant under Fred Hoiberg. So that would appear to take him out of the running for the UW-Green Bay head coaching job.

Possibly a few recruits to help fill out the roster for next year? If Warlde and Barone are both gone, will some of their recruits for this year follow? I hope this post is not considered tampering.

One more new name emerged today for the UWGB job- Joe Wolf. He is originally from Kohler, Wisconsin, which is near Green Bay. He had a good college career at North Carolina (1983-87), played parts of 12 seasons in the NBA, and has been a coach in college, CBA, D-League, and the NBA for the last 11 years.

The UWGB AD in 2010, Ken Bothof conducted the Green Bay coaching search in 2010. It was done in a pretty similar, drawn-out way by identifying a number of candidates, interviewing them, cutting the list down to 5 finalists, doing more interviews, then in the end he rejected all the other applicants and selected Tod Kowalczyk's top assistant, Brian Wardle as head coach.
This article does say that current AD Mary Ellen Gillespie has said she is doing one thing different. She will not be announcing who the finalists are out of concern it might drive off some coaches who do not want their schools or fans to know they are seeking another job, though usually these things have a way of becoming public anyway.

But by comparison, the 2010 UWGB coaching search lasted 16 days. Tod Kowalczyk was named head coach at Toledo and left UWGB on March 30, 2010, and Brian Wardle was announced by Ken Bothof on April 15. 2010.
This time, Wardle was named Bradley's head coach, and he left UWGB late on Friday, March 27. So we are now into the 10th day of the current UWGB search.

Looks like it may drag into next week.

1/2: It appears the GB men's basketball coaching search will go on for a few more days, at least. Per source, there were some GB coaching...

2/2: candidates who weren't able to make it to Indy last week. Those coaches had strong credentials and GB was willing to wait to talk.

Per source, GB AD Mary Ellen Gillespie has contacted some candidates for second interviews, and will ask about further visions for program.

With the naming of a new coach and not retaining any of the old coaching staff at Green Bay, there are strong rumors that possibly all 3 of Coach Wardle's recruits at Green Bay will ask to be released from their Letter of Intent. It is yet to be seen whether they will be released or whether there will be any restrictions on where they are allowed to commit.

Here are the 3 players currently committed to Green Bay-
Shooting guard Antoine Pittman

Point guard Joel Okafor-
