  • Glasser reign of error is over

Now that JG has been forced into "retirement" we can begin the likely 10 year rebuilding effort. The financial, enrollment, athletic and faculty relations damage done by JG has been considerable in scope. While Geno Ford will measured as the worst coach in BU history, JG will be acknowledged as a disastrous leader at BU.

Even the biggest JG defenders have acknolweged what is mess she is leaving behind.....it's not like she left the cupboard bare....she ripped down cupboard and mortgaged it for the future. Let's look back in 2025 and see what BU looks like.

This is what happens when you fail to diligence your presidential candidates and when you end up with such an insecure person. Much of this revolving door of human resources and firings ....resulted from JGs bizarre need to be popular. Utterly amazing that such insecurity could do such damage to a university.

Bravesfanchicago you are a clear thinker.

Any remaining JG defenders should also be forced to "retire" from whatever role they retain at Bradley. She leaves without a single positive contribution to the betterment of BU.

You'd be surprised just how dull most of us are.

When the President of any university injects themselves into sports and the major changes of the Athletic Deprtment - then they are DEFINITELY fair game for discussion on message boards.

I have heard and read many people claiming otherwise and criticizing such discussion - but look anywhere else...

Kirk Wessler and Dave Reynolds have written more about Dr. Glasser than the PJS has ever mentioned even the names of the former BU Presidents who virtually never got involved in athletics.

Then look at Illinois, Mizzou, Indiana, and now UAB - where the presidents are unilaterally making major decisions that affect sports and the fans - and note the intense and sometimes unpleasant responses.

Most university presidents delegate to the AD those major functions of running the department - but if a President chooses to get fully involved, to micromanage, and to make decisions that not only affect everyone including fans - but to destroy the sport we love, then discussion is fair game.

As she rides off into retirement wouldn't it be nice if should took Wessler and Dave Reynolds with her. That would be a grand slam and all of Bradley would be better off because of it!

I would liken Bradley's situation to stepping into & sinking in quicksand...getting worse minute by minute and desperate moves needed...
...despite being warned loudly and often by the caring people who see what's happening.

We have been sinking for 6-7 years but have loaded our pockets with lead weights (again - against all warnings, but those in charge saw the lead and thought it was gold) and are sinking way faster over the past 4 years.

Only now have those in charge conceded we are sinking fast and up to our noses with imminent disaster...
and now we have UNLOADED the lead weights....but....
we are still up to our noses and only now have we begun to reach for the lifeline that has been extended to us.

We still have a long way to go but the right moves are so obvious to everyone that it can be done - just don't make those bad decisions again and load up on lead weights.

Perhaps this thread should have been titled "Glasser reign of TERROR (not error) is over"

And--it may well get worse before it gets better--BU has dug a deep hole for itself and tarnished our image (and I won't even get into a gargoyle on a harley) with our declining enrollment & financial losses multiplying. Our basketball program is the most visible image of our university. The string of losing seasons and Thursday night losses--declining attendance & interest--criminal/character issues off he court--and now replacing the Pres/AD/and coach have all caused our image to sink to the lowest I can ever recall in my 60+ years. I am encouraged by the hiring of CR--but as you said--we need to get the next hirings right too if we plan to recover.
                    Bradley football--undefeated again this year

And some of the outgoing President's hires are still very much in place, though some may end up doing a good job (I hope).

I am not going to comment on the President's performance as I still work there. I can say that among faculty, the opinion is far from unanimous. Some faculty, including some of the highest performers, celebrated the news of the change. Other faculty, including some of the highest performers, were saddened by the news.
Others found the change to be "sad, but necessary".

We've got some challenges, but the good news is that the academic rankings are still very good and we do have some excellent academic students who are eager to learn and strong faculty who love to "teach 'em up."

The challenge is to keep a positive attitude while staying realistic as to what needs to be done and to NOT panic and make more bad decisions in the name of expediency.

                              Reign of error

The reign of error implications continue.....mutiple transfers of players. Though not unexpected after the dominoes of Glasser, Cross and Geno's firings. It will give Wardle some manuervering room.

I used to think that Glasser's tenure would be a lost decade.....now it looks like the sports ramifications might result in 15 years of lost opportunity and the university wide financial mess she made may take longer to fix.

Next year will be the 10 year anniversary of the Sweet 16. What a contrast to today in every way.

And one President's huge insecurities and incompetence largely led to all this mess.
