seriously - that column spends about half the "ink" droning on and on about how all those injuries and suspensions kept Geno from ever putting the lineup he wanted on the floor...

But the truth - for all the games down the stretch - when all we needed were a couple wins over miserable Thursday-caliber opponents and we could have stayed out of Thursday...
and during those games the ONLY player not available was a guy who was the deepest scholarship player on the end of the bench that Geno never used anyway!!

and yet they play that up into endless injuries and we went on to lose all those games and finish last - even tho he had his full playing rotation all healthy and in top form - and they lost badly anyway - with only a couple good performances by other DEEP, unused subs like Wells saving him from ending with 5-6 wins.

but it doesn't surprise me - in fact I predicted it months ago that the PJS would play the injury excuse endlessly all season in an effort to save Geno's job...
unfortunately - Dave & Kirk's efforts failed as badly as Geno's -- they couldn't save him even with all the efforts at tear-jerking.

We had enough help to be better than we were if the players were what the paper claimed they were. Nate started playing more in our win hosting Mo State and started every game after that. We won only that Mo State game and our play-in game on Thursday against Evansville. We finished the season with 9 wins. Do the math, Nate didn't prevent us from only finish with "5-6 wins" since he didn't get serious minutes until after we already had 7 wins.

No need to stretch the truth to make Geno look bad, he does that all by himself.
        Gotta stop feeding the trolls.

T my rose colored glasses comment was strictly about your comment about us "technically" not finishing in last place in Jim's last year. Last is last whether your tied for 9th in a 10 team league of finish 10th in a 10 team league. And I get it. What was a usable excuse under Geno was never an option under Jim. Let's see if the new coach is given that same leeway

That's because we're all up watching Northern Iowa. Hopefully they can come back.

The Geno years have provided us with the worst shooting, passing, and defense I have ever seen from a BU squad and I look forward to getting someone in that position that knows how to bring out the best in our players instead of giving excuses.

And as far as the PJS goes, you can make excuses for Geno all you want. It's sad that you never offered the same courtesy to Les who suffered far greater injuries in his last 2 years at BU than anything Geno had to deal with.

If 100th out of 351 D-1 schools, and 4th in the MVC, in defensive efficiency is the worst you've ever seen from BU, you haven't been a BU fan long at all. As far as the offense goes, well yes, it most certainly was offensive...

Regardless whether you want to argue how good of a job they did, the people who have been fired or "resigned" this past couple weeks have been paid well above what is customary & average for smaller midmajors schools - especially those performing at the lower end of the athletic spectrum during the time they were here.
Here's what the budget sheet shows for the employment of the personnel in this discussion,
based on the best estimates of their salaries and lengths of the contracts. It' close $12-15 million over the past 6-7 years. Half the Caterpillar donation down the drain not to mention the loss of the Puterbaugh and other donations.

Coach, served 4 years, paid for 6 or 7 at $700000/per= so Geno made $4-5 million in 4yr career at BU
AD, served 5 years, paid for 6 or 7 at $200000-300000/per= about $1.5 to $2 million in 5 yr career at BU
President, served 7.5 years, paid 3.5 years at $500000 then 4 more plus several more years bought out at $700000/per= $6-8 million in 7.5 year career at BU

Thanks for finding the defensive stats. I was going to point out too that Geno's teams were not terrible at defense.

arguments for defense are bogus if we waste time, keep scores low and lose the game 73-45 (Memphis), 63-43 (WS), 64-49 (Loyola), 56-39 (UNI)..

The two key elements of all defense are...
Get a stop when we need to and keep them from scoring more than we do - we repeatedly and miserably failed on both of those.
Not one defensive stat in MVC play (Scoring defense, FG% defense, 3-pt% defense, Blocks, or Defensive rebounds) are in the TOP four in the conference.
You can't have it both ways - if never above 4th place is lousy then it can't suddenly be good when you're touting our great defense.

Stats can make a program look really great or really bad. Have to agree w/ T on this one as way to many times we really worked hard on D until the 25-30 second mark and then break down and the other team would have a lay up. Many other examples as well. Way to many mental lapses on D for me to rave about their Defense

This is the perfect time for Bradley to step up and ask the Journal Star to replace Dave Reynolds as the writer who covers Bradley men's basketball.
He has been a disgrace as a writer for the past four years. The non-sense he has fed us from the beginning of the Ford era to its end has been pathetic. Our new coach, who ever it may be, deserves a fresh start with the local media and getting rid of DR is the way to do it. Pretty simple task, re-assign him to a different job at the paper.

There are a lot of disgraceful things in life....but Reynolds writing for the PJS isn't one of them

I actually like Dave and Kirk and hope they give the next coach the same respect and coverage as they gave Geno.

Had a great time talking with Phil Theobald the other day. Talked about BU and some of the old days.

As a coach I hate to see a coach get fired, my heart breaks for Geno...was hoping for better...
