That kind of thinking may make some people feel better, but not me and not most fans. Geno was hired and paid a massive salary (higher than anyone except Gregg Marshall), numerous promises were made of competing for championships, facilities upgraded to the best among mid-majors, enormous increases in assistant coaching salaries and recruiting budgets (tripled in many sports) to the point it has nearly bankrupted the university, and way more support staff has been hired that was ever the case under the last coach. Maybe the last coach could have done better with the many millions more that have been invested in the athletic department in these last 4 years.
Regardless, using the excuse that, "oh well, we never finished higher than 4th before", just doesn't cut it, and it doesn't erase the massive mistakes made these past 4 years.

Can someone explain the comment about Bradley owing Geno 1.2 million for his 3 more years? The way I figure it should be twice that?
As was pointed out, there was a buy-out that did not guarantee the entire contract.

this argument is beginning to sound less appealing since 4th would seem like paradise right now...

and you probably know this but...those years from 2005 thru 20010 were when the MVC was much stronger than it is now..
While I agree 4th isn't as good as Top 3, it also isn't as bad as bottom two - what we've now grown used to.
You keep trying to justify the firing then hiring of Geno with this argument that we were so bad back then that we simply had to make the move that sent us to perennial laughingstock. I remain convinced that we would be far better off had we NOT fired our AD in 2009 & coach in 2011.

if we held a game today the attendance would be >8,000 -
that's how much benefit we've already gained by hiring Chris Reynolds...
a couple more of these RIGHT moves and we'll be on the way to 10,000
