  • ISU/Green Bay NIT game

    Halftime
    Green Bay 31 - ISU 24

ISU is just 5-25 in the 1st half and starters are 3-16

Thankfully for ISU the refs are busy blowing the whistle and ISU is 14-15 from the FT line!!!

Green Bay has made just ONE single FT

ISU tends to be a 2nd half team - so it's not over yet

In the CIT Evansville leads IPFW 43- 27 at half!!!
DJ Ballentine already has 23 points!

        ISU finishes strong.

        ISU-69
        UWGB-56

Their next game is at Old Dominion a team they defeated early in the year.

Hope they beat them again...I want to see the Birds come here to Tulsa to lose.

I was at the ISU NIT game. Basically, as long as Lynch was in the game, GB's inside game was all but non-existent. He blocked 6 shots and altered many others.

GB shot very poorly from the free throw line, especially in the first half; they should have been up by far more than 7.

Still, it was only a 6 point game with 3 minutes to go.

Though ISU had just under 5000 there (and the crowd really did look like an "honest" 5K), the place was loud and energetic. And yes, they have a lot of grey haired fans, just like BU. "Old crowd" does not mean "no energy."

Note: Bradley opponent Robert Morris won their "play in" NCAA game.

Robert Morris was 4-8 on Jan. 5 - and is now 20-14 - one of only five 20-win teams we saw all year...

Once Robert Morris got into their conference schedule they really started rack up wins against their power house schedule of Wagner, St. Francis Brooklyn, Long Island University Brooklyn, Central Connecticut State, Bryant and Sacred Heart.

but maybe having a pretty smart coach plays a part...
Their head coach, Andrew Toole, in his 5 years there at RMU is 110-64 and 65-23 in the NEC -
(Geno would need 64 wins next year and 46 wins in the MVC to catch up with the guy's record)

Now before you tell me about their conference being weaker - I'll just list a few of the teams this guy has beaten the past two years...

Kentucky, St. John's, Cleveland State, Ohio (MAC teams), LaSalle, Duquesne.....
The guy isn't going to be at RMYU for long - he does seem to have a way of getting wins

This has been discussed on the ISU board. Many of the regular season ticket holders/corporate seats in areas that are usually quiet in the lower bowl went to some more passionate fans that usually would be upper bowl. The arena was less spreadout which lead to good noise. In game promotions were not the usual stale things from the regular season which also helped.

Green Bay had some good length and was a good team. The officiating was not good for either team. Hopefully the Birds can find away to get past ODU again.

In watching the game on TV it looked like they had a decent student section also. I know TV can make it look better then what it really was so can someone that was at the game make a comment about their student section?

There were some students behind one of the baskets and they were energetic. It wasn't a huge student section, considering the size of ISU. But I'd say it was a couple of lower bowl sections, and they were loud.

That's what we need at BU on a consistent basis
