Wow...look at the teams in that tournament. That is why I am against these alphabet "pay to continue to play" tournaments. They may be a good thing for powerhouses like New Hampshire, Eastern Illinois and others.

There is not a team in that tournament, you could brag a playing against, to a good recruit. Can you imagine what the officiating will be like. The good officials will be working the good games of the NCAA and NIT.

If you're not one of the top 100 teams in the country...it's time to put the balls away for the year.

I think there is a place for a mid-major tournament like the CIT for decent mid-major teams who don't stand a chance at getting into the NCAA or NIT.

I agree. At least when Bradley played in this kind of tournament there were some "name" schools, like Virginia who they beat on the road, who just had bad years.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

I wouldn't call most of the teams in this tournament decent. The ones that have piled up a lot of wins, have done it mostly against opponents that are not in any tournament. Evansville did beat Northern Iowa, but that may have hurt Northern Iowa's seed in the NCAA. I don't think they beat anybody else of much significance. If these teams were on our non conference schedule, I don't believe people would be say..."Whoo, whoo, we're playing Grand Canyon and New Hampshire at home this year. Let's get tickets to that game".

I still believe it is a tournament you pay a lot of money to get into and hope to get a couple of wins so people can say, "We won 20 games".

I can see where you're coming from but for these teams, I believe, might look at it another way also. They can continue to practice and play some games and work on things getting ready for next year. If you're a player you would much rather get to play in one of these tournaments then have your BB season just completely be over and sitting or doing your own workouts then still playing.
Also, you mention about not getting excited about playing these teams, and I have not looked up their RPI, but I would almost make a wager our SOS would much stronger then what it is right now.

The CBI bracket is finally posted.

Loyola is in the field of 16. They play Tuesday 3/17 at home against Rider of the MAAC.
There are reports that the CBI was turned down by a lot of schools and they had more trouble filling their 16-team bracket this year than ever. Maybe they had to discount the buy-in price? Colorado, of the Pac-12 is the only major in the field this year, and their record is 15-17 overall, just 7-11 in the Pac-12, and they finished in 9th place. Some of the other participants are pretty bad, too. Seattle was 16-15 (14-15 against D1), 7-7 in the WAC with an abysmal RPI of 280! Delaware State (18-17) was the 5th place team in the lowly MEAC, with an RPI of 204. Mercer's RPI is 212. And, of course, Loyola was the 6th place team in the MVC.

Oregon State and Cal were among the many schools that turned down CBI bids.

Northwestern (15-17, 6-12 in the Big Ten) also turned down a CBI bid-
Collins wants to give his banged-up guys some rest and is looking forward to this summer's trip to Spain.

Florida State, and reportedly other ACC teams turned them down.
We knew the NCAA tournament was out of reach, and we figured the NIT was out of reach as well. FSU was invited to the CBI, but turned it down according to SID Chuck Walsh. Now the season is over,...

And so did Florida and other SEC teams-

                        Wow, CBI. Terrible. Just terrible.

I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

I think this is a good thing for Loyola - why not?
Indiana State might have gotten an NIT or CBI bid but turned down all opportunities to play in the post-season

I agree with these schools 100%. They realize these are tournaments for people that don't deserve to be in a tournament.

Maybe they should have a tournament for teams that finish .500. That way we could find out who is the best .500 team in the tournament, plus they get to practice a few more times to make them better next year.

Teams can still have workouts during the NCAA tournaments, even if their team is eliminated. As I've said before, if you need another couple of practices and games to play to get better for next year...what the hell have you been doing in practice for the last 5 or 6 months.

Look at the big time schools that turn down these rinky dink tournaments. They know their season should be over since they didn't make the NCAA or NIT.
