  • 2015 signing date approaching- will Bradley sign any recruits

The signing period for National Letters of Intent starts April 15 and ends May 20, 2015.
Officially, Bradley has just 1 scholarship available, but there were several other names announced over the PA system at Bradley's Senior Day game on Feb. 28, as players who may graduate and not return for their final season of eligibility- Nate Wells, Anthony Fields, Omari Grier, and Mike Shaw.

And Bradley coaches continue to recruit players for the 2015-16 season. Geno has already stated publicly that his recruiting priorities are another point guard, another post player, and a wing shooter. Those needs seem obvious to any fan who watched games this season.

So will Bradley sign anyone, and who will it be?

Someone will be signed during the spring signing period or this summer. Bradley can not afford to continue without some new talent.

I was not aware that Shaw had the credits necessary to graduate. I knew of the others. However, it sounds like Wells is counting on coming back next year. I guess it will depend on the coach. Even if Wells comes back, the other three mentioned and Barnes would open up four scholarships. If there is talent willing to come to Bradley, there may be another one of two who might be encouraged to look outside of Bradley for opportunity.

As you mentioned, the question is who would sign with Bradley without knowing who the coach will be.

I think that's a big question??¦??¦..seems to me the only recruit you get here is one with no other offers and nothing to lose??¦.that's not a great situation for BU.

I would doubt retaining Ford allows for much better recruiting for next year than hiring a new coach. Waiting for a new coach next year would be resulting in two rough recruiting years in a row and an overall longer time for a possible recovery of the men's basketball team at Bradley.

Geno will not get anybody that can help the program to come to Bradley. There are too many problems. He hasn't done a very good job of getting players that can shoot, play point or the post in the four years he has been here. In addition, the better players are not going to come to Bradley, knowing their coach is at best, a lame duck.

It is another bad situation the university is in.

Bradley's basketball program is going to be status-quo, at best, until a new coach is hired and has a minimum of 1 full recruiting year. At that point, we may be able to see some improvement. Until then, with the instability of not only the basketball program, but the entire athletic department and university, it is difficult to expect much improvement.

Any school we are competing against for a quality player has an amazing amount of ammo to use against us in a negative way until changes are done. Anybody that has ever been involved in the recruiting process, knows how easily high school and junior college kids are swayed.

I think we need to buckle our seat belts for a bumpy ride until a new coach and stability return to Bradley.

Why would they let Geno sign anyone?

The problem is that there is no "they".

I contend there is a "they" but they are cluelessly driving Bradley Athletics into the dumpster with the moves they've made the past several years - especially handing off decision-making capacity to someone who has made so many bad decisions since this one.

the "they" are already in place except for the assistants...
the signing period is just TWO WEEKS away - we need just about one of everything but I would grade our needs from top to bottom as...
                    ...(dependent on who leaves)

-shooting - especially reliable 3-pt shooters who can hit around 40%+ - something we have NOT had since Andrew Warren, Jeremy Crouch, Danny Adams, Will Franklin, Phillip Gilbert
-scoring - especially some depth here - we can't have just one guy on the court through much of the game that has the ability to score
-help at low post - whoa - we have next to nothing now
-athletic or taller wing - what Barnes, Grier, Swopshire, or Zecevic were promised to be...
-backup point guard - we've seen painfully what happens when your point guard has zero assists and 7 turnovers.
-we need a designated defensive stopper - like what Dyricus was for us
..all those above needs are immediate but also we need depth at each of those spots so it wouldn't be surprising if we start bringing in freshman who want to stay four years to groom for those spots in a year or two...

(I don't know about you, but I think the re-stocking philosophy of bringing in a batch of jucos or transfers every spring who all run out of eligibility or leave in a year has failed us horribly)

We desperately need someone that can shoot the three, and shoot it well.

The way the game is played now, you need at least 2 players that can shoot the three effectively to have a good team. The only thing that concerns me about the new coach, is that from what I've heard, a good three point shooter hasn't been one of his priorities.

Does anyone know if this is true?

Well, Green Bay was, by far, the worst 3-point shooting teams in the Horizon League this year.
Their 3-point percentage was 29.4%, which ranked 333rd in Division I (among 345 D1 teams). FTR, Bradley was 317th with 30.1%.
The next worst team in the Horizon League was UIC at 32.4%, and no other team was less than 34%. None of their players who made more than 3 three pointers all year shot over 31%!

The only teams that were worse in 3-point percentage were San Jose St., Alabama A&M, Grambling, Nebraska, Morgan St., N.C. A&T, Florida A&M, Alcorn, Jackson St., Georgia Tech, Nevada, and Savannah St.

Oh brother...that doesn't sound good to me, let's hope that changes. I've seen enough of that crap these past four years!

It's strange how Division III teams like Augustana and Illinois Wesleyan can find 3 point shooters but schools like Bradley and it appears Wisc.-Green Bay can't.
