Interesting to see the column by Kirk Wessler in the March 8 PJ Star.
The first half of his column simply reiterates everything that is already known about the openings for President, AD, and potentially head coach.
Then, he confirms the Jerrance Howard rumors that some clueless people disputed and called "BS"-
...there was a plan by a group of BU supporters that had the attention of certain board members. Part of that plan was to fast-track Jerrance Howard...
Now Kirk seems to have come full circle and reports this Jerrance Howard information as if it is breaking news, but does not acknowledge any source.
That is interesting, since we reported the Jerrance Howard information way back on February 9, and it was called "BS" by some, and disputed as a false rumor. Part of that same report that appeared here on Bradleyfans reported that Michael Cross was being dismissed by the Board. We were asked by Bradley to remove that thread (which out of courtesy to BU, we did), because, as the Bradley demand stated, "this thread is not true and is inappropriate."
Then exactly 1 week later, it became known that it was all true. Michael Cross was dismissed, just as we stated.
Then Kirk reports about the AD search. He states-
The primary target appears to be Chris Reynolds, the former Peoria High basketball star who captained Bob Knight’s last Final Four team at Indiana. He has a law degree and a career in college athletics administration that includes stints at the NCAA, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Northwestern, where he is deputy athletics director.
Again, that may sound familiar, since we reported all that back on February 9, and the PJ Star reported the rumor was false and that the Board had not considered anyone yet for the job.
Finally, Kirk throws out 2 more names-
Another name with traction is Dan Butterly, a Washington native who is senior associate commissioner of the Mountain West Conference.
Here is a bio on Dan Butterly-
I am not sure what he means by "Another name with traction". Its a rather odd way to state things, as if he is retaining plausible deniability. Is he reporting that the Board has actually considered him? Or has the Board contacted him or interviewed him? For the record, our sources have been pretty good so far, and I am not hearing this name.
The other name Kirk threw out-
Yet another person of interest could be Allen Ward. He’s a Wichita State alum now heading the athletic department at Murray State, which is a perennial mid-major basketball power.
Here is Allen Ward's bio-
Ward has a pretty good, and a pretty well paying job at Murray State as their AD. Their basketball team this year is 27-5 and undefeated in the Ohio Valley Conference. He has no connections to Peoria or Illinois that I can see. From the way it was stated, "Yet another person of interest could be...", again it seems that Kirk is not actually reporting he is a legitimate candidate. Maybe he is just throwing out the name, but I am not sure why Allen Ward would be interested in leaving a good AD position at Murray State to take over the absolute mess that has been left behind at Bradley.
