You first told me personally of those two names, Howard & Reynolds, back in mid-January - long before a hint of news that we were even in need of a coach or an AD

Just to prove that - here's your post from January where you finally went a little bit public with what you knew...

lefty- nice to see you consider BradleyFans & the Sports Editor of the PJ Star as equal competitors...but in a way you have just confirmed what we have said all along...
That instead of the newspaper guys always criticizing the message boards - they need to admit that they are simply in the EXACT same business as the people who post in their spare time on message boards, but they get paid handsomely for it.
the newspaper guys claim a "higher standard" and claim they do a better job of researching their reports -
but as we have seen so many times, they often just put stuff in their columns like this that's every bit as speculative and what's on message boards.

I think you are right in saying that even tho we never feel threatened by "competition" from the newspaper..
it is obvious that the newspaper feels threatened and angry about competition from amateurs on the message boards & blogs.
They really ought to welcome & embrace the info they get from us....maybe even pay us or at least give us credit when they take something right off the message boards and run with it.
my statement was in the form of a question(yes I forgot the ?)??¦??¦I don't think it's a competitor but it seems some here do if they get info out before they do which I think is silly??¦??¦??¦.anyone can post anything on a message board??¦some of it's true and some of it is way off base??¦??¦that isn't the a newspaper works??¦.

We aren't changing each other's mind here??¦.you guys hate the PJS because of what happened to Les??¦??¦??¦.I mean you guys are big Bradley fans??¦why aren't you glad he's civil in his writing about Geno?

I am happy about the nice to Geno part - but a little stunned about the dishonesty and trying like crazy to call a really bad program good all the time and shore it up with excuses...

people criticize what I say all the time - I am sure Kirk & Dave are big enough to take a little review from their readers...

What is with this generalization and presumptuous statement, which is 100% false?
First, who is "you guys"?- I think you'll find that everyone here has differing opinions, and they are all tolerated.
Second, if you are referring to me, it has nothing to do with "what happened to Les". It is the hypocrisy and distorted reality we get from them that bothers many people, not just me. If you like being preached at by them, you are welcome to it.

Have you forgotten the statements like-
"by a light year or two they're better", which Kirk said while Bradley was headed into a stretch in which they lost 21 of their last 23 games that year.
And definitive statements like "impact players" "defining moment", and "stellar recruiting class", and I could name numerous more that were obviously not very objective and were more like wishful thinking, while at the same time never passing up an opportunity to include a shot at the previous coach in some way.

The biggest difference between newspaper writers or people that write on message boards, is this:

          1. People that write for the newspaper, generally have some type of education in journalism.

          2. People that write for the newspaper, use their real name when having it put in print. Most generally, people that write on message boards use an alias.

there are almost 100 different basketball related threads that have been active in the past week...
more than 2/3 are directly relevant to Bradley in some way, the tourney, or the personnel issues..
and a couple dozen are filled with relevant and even breaking news about the major changes at Bradley - and potential candidates...
BTW - None of the 100 or so threads in the past week or two have any cut-and-paste from other boards, and none are for the sole purpose of attacking someone else or their opinions.
Thus I think the fact that at the exact time 110 people are online here, there are only a handful on other boards and 1/3 of those are web-bots

Back to the title of this thread....I believe it may be difficult to get a high quality athletic director without a president in place. For us on the outside and not being the one that actually could be accepting the AD position, it is easy to speculate. This job is the good, the bad and the ugly.

              The good...a loyal fan base.

The bad...a lot of work needs to be done. Mending fences with fans, mending fences among fans, generating much needed revenue, improving the men's basketball schedule, possibly hiring and firing multiple coaches in multiple sports.

The ugly...you don't even know who your boss is going to be. You may not see eye to eye on many things and could be fired in no time, if they don't like you.

How many of us would make a major change in employers, not knowing your boss, their personality, expectations, if they are a micro manager, or if they really don't think athletics are all that important.

Excellent post agree with the good, the bad, and the ugly. I would NOT take a job that so much depends on who your boss is, and not have a clue who it's gonna be. Unless they made an offer that you just couldn't turn down$$$$$$

I agree with you. Bradley is in a tough spot right now with 2 of three positions up in the air??¦.and both of them typically take some time to sort out??¦??¦.

I do think though if an AD is doing a good job the Pres would leave them alone??¦.and in our case at least give them a chance to succeed because chances are the AD will be in place for several months before a President??¦??¦

How long should it take to hire an AD???¦??¦is Geno in limbo the whole time?

I think it depends on what type of candidates they get. You can't get this hire right and put a time table on it. You have to let the process work itself.
The athletic director will be hired before the president. You're right, the athletic director job will be safe for some time frame. But what if you take the job as athletic director and you just don't "click" with the new president?
Not many things are worse than being miserable at work.

Like I said, it's easy for us to say we would take the job if in that position, but would we really? Would we be willing to lift up our family and move to take a job at a place, we don't even know who our boss is going to be? That's quite a risk. I'm not saying nobody will do it. I'm just saying I think it will limit our candidates when push comes to shove.

As for Geno...he's on indefinite hold until an athletic director is hired. That's not fair to him, the players, the fans, the recruiting process, or the program. That's the way it is though. Although we need a coaching change, just to make a change for the sake of making a change may not be the best option at this time. It's not any better to have a lame duck coach.

It is what it is and that's a mess.

Some people may say they would take the job. I don't think many quality people will. That doesn't mean no quality people will, it means as it says.
We must remember, this isn't going to be the only athletic director job in the country to open up and it certainly isn't one of the better job openings that will be available. Way too many uncertainties...and if people take it because of the dollars, instead of the challenges, they are taking it for the wrong reason.

Don't forget 3. They get paid to mostly give their opinions and you don't need an education in journalism to do that.

You are right, but you pretty much have to have some education in journalism to get paid for it. Otherwise, you don't know how to write the article to create interest. I would bet Kirk Wessler just grins when he reads on this message board, how much people don't like his articles. You see, that means people are reading them. He's probably going to get a big raise this year because they are creating so much interest. The PJS has got to love it. It sells papers or subscriptions to the on-line edition. That is what being a columnist is all about. If nobody complained about the articles, he wouldn't be doing his job. If everybody agreed with the articles he wrote, nobody would read them. It may not make sense, but it works. I bet when people see his articles in the sports page regarding Bradley basketball, it's one of the first things they read.

I just think some make too much out of KW's article…..I read them, agree with some maybe not with some others…but at the end of the day it's one guy's opinion…..that's all. I've discussed the articles more here than I've ever discussed with anyone in the public…….

I'm sure he reads this message board and he also reads the PJS message board. I'm sure he grins and even chuckles a little bit when he reads and hears people agree or disagree with his columns. That is the reaction his columns are designed to get. I haven't seen much criticism of his article on the ISU/UNI game yesterday. I don't agree with every column that he writes either. I'm just saying he's pretty good at what he does, as he generates conversation about his articles. That's the intent.
