I understand that angle cpacmel, but these tourneys are just embarrassing. It's also embarrassing when you play in them/buy into them and there's even only about half of the 3500 fans that attended the games at Redird Arena that show up to watch them.
I agree braves2006. And certainly I don't believe that these tourneys should be "celebrated" or praised as some sort of reward for excellence.
I just think they are great for more experience for underclass men. And additional team practice as well.

Playing an extra game and getting a few extra practices, by paying thousands of dollars to play in a third rate tournament, is not going to improve a team like people think. They've already had 5 months or more of games and practices. These tournaments are for "also rans" that were not good enough to play in the NIT or NCAA. The only thing they do is allow teams to get up to 20 wins in a season by playing additional games.
There comes a point in time where everybody can't have a ribbon.
Wichita State 30 - ISU 22 at half
nobody hitting shots except Daishon Knight for ISU
For Shockers, Baker has 13 pts, 4 rebs & 5 assists - the Redbirds must not have seen any tape on Wichita - they seem to have forgotten to guard Baker
Muller should have taken a clue from Geno and played a box & one
Illinois State took the lead shortly after halftime, and lead most of the 2nd half and hung on to upset Wichita State 65-62 in the first semifinal game this afternoon.
Box score for the Illinois State Redbirds vs. Wichita State Shockers NCAAM game from March 7, 2015 on ESPN. Includes all points, rebounds and steals stats.
Congratulations to the Redbirds! I said before the season that I thought ISU had the 3rd best roster in the league, and they proved it by getting better and better as the season went along.
IMO, this proves beyond any doubt that those who said it takes 4, 5, or 6 years or more to rebuild were wrong (like this column from a year ago that lectured Bradley fans that after 3 miserable seasons, they needed to give the rebuilding process several more years--> LINK).
Recall that ISU tied Bradley for last place in 2011. And in 2013, after a couple middle of the pack finishes, Dan Muller dismissed virtually his entire team, and recruited a completely new roster of truly good basketball players. He has built this team from nothing in just 2 seasons!
So Bradley fans have every right to expect to see their team get turned around quickly and return to a winning program after the darkest period in their history. They do not deserve to be lectured to or be given lame excuses any more.
one key part is that he recruited a few shooters - and they shot 43% from the arc today and on the season, had FOUR players who shot 35% from the arc or better (plus one more that shot 34.8%)- while we had only one each of the past two seasons.
...no wonder we heard all those complaints about "shots won't fall"...
Championship game time in the MVC. Not a full house in the lower bowl which was expected with Wichita losing. Looks like ISU might have tripled their crowd. Just a great atmosphere, one I hope BU will experience again.
