  • Reason for Loss last night

There are so many reasons. First let me say I did not see the first half until this morning. My wife and I chose to watch American Idol until the 2nd half started. 1st reason I thought Coach's defensive plan used to open the game left a lot to be desired. MSU got way to many uncontested shots in the paint. Then not changing it until we were down 14. That's on the staff. Rest of the reasons: 3 point shooting, missed layups, 2 point shooting, Missed layups . Sound familiar doesn't it but not done yet. Josh missed 2 Ft's that would have iced the game up 3 with like 14 secs left. WJ missed Ft's in OT. Than we get to KDB, two bricked FT's that would have won the game. So many turn overs I didn't even have time to count. How he gets so many minutes is beyond me. BUT in my mind the real reason for this loss is on Austin's shoulders. His Technical for elbowing # 33 long after the original foul was called was totally unnecessary and cost us the game. It allowed Ruder to make two ft's that should never have been shot. Game over in regulation they lose by two. We just seem to find a way to lose. This season can't get over soon enough. I have not called for a coaching change on this board or any other board but I don't see how it can not happen. I have gotten to know Geno and he is just a very nice person but I'm afraid nice guys do finish last.

There were so many opportunities to win, and don't get me started on free throws, but here's the missed opportunity I can't get past. . . . Ruder making a 3 on the last possession of the second overtime to tie it. We are five seconds away from our first win in about three dozen road games west of the Mississippi. FOUL SOMEBODY! Anything but allow their best (only?) three-point shooter to jack one up, even a desperation heave from the corner.

Of course, it could be argued that if we fouled with five seconds left and they made two free throws to draw within one.....we'd have trouble getting the ball in-bounds like we so often do.

I feel badly for the guys. They did come back, made some good plays, and Josh certainly deserved to taste the victory. I really hope that 53 minutes of playing in a pretty meaningless game doesn't mess up his knee. And I really, really, really hope we get to watch him for another three years.

but how do you prepare, then play a tight zone in order to protect the paint and NOT allow easy shots inside...
then one of the worst, depleted, injury riddled, talent-less teams around repeatedly beats your zone with passes down low or drives into the paint for easy layups or unmolested dunks?
Looked like the classic Grinnell "give'em 2 so we can make 3-defense"

I'll say it. There were times we looked like we were trying to lose on purpose. KDB shoots the first of two key free throws and it barely scrapes the front rim. The next one, THE SAME EXACT THING. And those two ridiculous passes just giving the other team the ball. And the inexcusable technical.

In my opinion, which isn't worth much, this team hasn't looked like it cared since losing to Evansville in Peoria. Yes, they played hard at Wichita, but who wouldn't. I believe this team quit on the coach because of a lack of leadership and respect.

We don't have great talent, but we have enough talent to win more than 3 games in a weak MVC, and probably finish in the top five or six.

If I was in third grade and at a birthday party, playing "Pin the Tail On the Donkey", I know where the tail would go.
